Okay my head is about to explode (yes it's ILS)

I have attempted an ILS flight (in my case Melbourne to Sydney in Australia - I am in Perth but that doesn't matter).

Fozzer has a point too about riles with rules. This user, with respect needs to read up on both the forum rules and the aircraft usage. Maybe even start in a light aircraft first and then proceed to a jet. Fun or not mate you`re using a lot of bandwidth, making it impossible for people to properly open this thread. By not reading up on the aircraft first you are multiplying the questions you will need to ask by 100 or 1000. People are prepared to welcome you and to help but please meet us on this at least part way. The alternative (as said by others in the past) is get a plastic model plane and make whooshing noises, you may just get some fun out of it.

Check out this thread and follow closely the advice of our guru Brett Henderson...

..... [smiley=thumbsup.gif]...!
We regulars (well most of us) love spending many, many hours in the Cessna 152/172 Trainer Aircraft before going anywhere near a shiny aluminium, Passenger Cigar Tube...

...!
All of our flight training is spent on them, including the glories of Radio Navigation...

..!
I have spent the past 10+ Flight Sim years regularly practicing, and improving my skills on the little Trainers with the assistance of the Flight Sim Learning Centre!
It even helped in my management of the real Aircraft...

At the point of the screenshot you should decent and maintain 4000, and turn to 005.
Find the NAV / GPS selector knob, move it to NAV.
Then, tune the Nav radio to the runway you're landing ons frequency (Find out by going into MAP and clicking on the runway).
Then enter in the heading of the runway into the autopilot control panel 'course' selector.
Maintain 4000 feet and heading 005 but click the APP button, it should now stay at 4000 feet and heading 005 untill it gets close to the centreline of the runway (Localiser), and then should start decending when it's close to the verticlal glideslope.
That's as simple as it gets, and doing that will always work, every single time. Also, ILS is NOT autoland, turn if off when you're atleast 200 feet high, AND turn off autothrottle when you're 200 feet high. In real life planes can autoland, they can also deal idle throttles just before touchdown, but NEITHER are simulated in MSFS default aircraft. And you could try saving up untill the point you have trouble with and keep trying that.
AND PLEEEEAAASSSSEEE read , and do, the private pilot lessons AND the instrument pilot lesseons included with MSFS. They explain everything.

Whoops sorry about the high resolution. Have now rescaled the picture to 1024 * 640 @ 127K. Should make it load a little quicker now ;D

You're also making it tough for yourself by trying to learn instrument procedures in the VC. Much better to do it with the 2D panel so you have the instruments nice and big so you can set and read them properly and the autopilot on the same screen so the buttons and settings are easily accessible.

...another excellent tip...
...and a reason why I seem to upset so many VC (Virtual Cockpit) users with my preference for having all of my instruments viewable on a 2D panel in front of me...especially for the "learning" process...

...!
The 2D panel on the Default Cessna 172, together with it's Bendix-King Radio Stack is ideal for general flying and Navigation practice...

Some "overly" constructive criticism there. Flamin' at times, but anyway water off a duck's back. As I said I play the game just to have fun so if I happen to fly an large aluminium airframe around so be it. Basics are all I need to know. Provided I can navigate the plane to where it needs to go and roughly line it up with an airport and land that's all I care about.
Thanks to Vodka Burner for providing me with that information. He obviously read what I had written, saying that I had read all the other stuff and still not able to work it out properly so just needed clarification and that is what Vodka Burner has advised. Thanks Vodka Burner :)
Diddley also thanks for the advise, however I do actually bring up the 2D panels and radio stack etc on the screen as it tends to be a pain reading the instruments in the VC. I utilise the 2D panels literally all the time. However when I I am just "cruisin'", I like to have the view set up like that.

And always intercept the glide slope from below. If you are above the glideslope the intercept will fail. Always from below.
Draco you're great, but you say you're just cruising, can't be bothered with the lessons or simple planes.
But you can be bothered to write to this forum and piece together from the posts, the same lessons that you can get from the tutorials built into the sim. And probably more efficiently.

Hey macca,
Thanks for that bit of advice. I have actually done the lessons (from the learning centre) and read through various forums to get an idea of what I am doing most of the time. Of course that's the only way I know how to plot a course from point A to point B. Also that's the only way you can learn how to fly the variety of planes and adjust them to get a nice smooth flight.
I wrote to the forum for 1 thing being I couldn't get a grasp on ILS landings. I did right that all I care about is the "cruising" aspect and just wanted to know how to adjust the ILS is lamen terms to land the plane at the end of the day. I could just find the airport and then land any old way but thought I would try something new.

Good on you. And even though all professional pilots love to hand fly their aircraft to a landing in the Real World, all airlines in particular will tune and intercept the ILS (where there is one) and fly that down to a landing although with the autopilot disconnected.
It is a good experience to learn to set your plane up in the landing configuration - speed and flaps - and then handfly down the ILS. However this means that you must scan your primary flight instruments and this takes practice, particularly to avoid over-correcting.
It is probably not surprising that a well set up heavy is much more stable on the glideslope than a light GA aircraft, because the heavy has more inertia and therefore holds its course much better.
I'm a VC pilot exclusively nowadays, but that's after twenty years of simming and a long apprenticeship on the 2D. (The 2D becomes a bit dull and boring after a while!)
