Airport Approach Pattern Incorrect

Postby raptorx » Mon Apr 21, 2008 10:54 pm

I'm in San Diego and at Linburgh field the planes take off and land the wrong way.  It should be takeoff and landing west (toward the ocean).  LAX is like this too.  Only when the weather is adverse do they run the way they do in FSX.  Is there any way to change this?

Landing direction is based on weather conditions, unless there is something that restricts that (like mountains at the end of the runway, etc...).  Although, I heard that at one time there was an issue with runway use not corresponding to the predominant wind in FSX, but I think that was updated with SP1 or 2.  Do you have both of those installed?  If so, have you checked the weather in the sim to see the wind direction?

This is Southern California-there IS no weather.  Seriously, The predominant winds are onshore from the west.  95% of the time the airplanes take off over the ocean.  Like I mentioned above, under adverse weather it changes.  But FSX has it all abckwards. :D

If the winds are from the west, then aircraft should be taking off to the west, like you describe, so FSX has it right, unless I'm not seeing this correctly? :-?

Isnt there a carpark at the end of the runway at KSAN?

I dont have fsx but in fs9 with the traffic i have they predominantly take off out to sea and approach through the buildings and over the carpark. Its a great approach to fly!

Sorry i cant help!

You must remember FS is stupid.  All it knows is which way the wind is blowing and chooses the runway that way.  It doesn't know about parking lots or special traffic patterns at all.

No, FSX is taking off & landing to the east.  Backwards from how is usually is here.  I haven't checked my wind direction settings yet, that might be it.

Yes, at what usually is the approach end.  It's famous for being a PITA for pilots.

I changed the wind direction from out of the N to out of the W and that fixed it.  It's all about that setting in the user defined weather.  Now the traffic runs the right way (for normal SD days).  FSX isn't stupid, just predictable. ;)
