O&O DEFRAG ANNOUNCEMENT

For those of you who are using O&O with my list, you know the benefits of following that list and the use of O&O Defrag as I laid out

After discussions with O&O engineering and management O&O has now recognized the v10 issues and the are working with Microsoft to correct the problem

Until then, O&O has agreed to offer a special for everyone... this special will allow you to have BOTH VERSION 8.5 now and upgrade to VERSION 10 when the issue is resolved...

THATS v10 FOR FREE with the purchase of v8.0 v8.5 (or 8.6)

[quote]Our nice colleagues from sales thought it'd be a pity to downgrade and bundled a "two (version 10 AND version 8 licenses) for the price of one" package for you. You can purchase it here till 07/31/08: https://shop.oo-software.com/36/uurl-a3oe99wzfr. You can use version 10 on another machine or give it away for Easter.

I wonder if they'll let you go backward from v10 to v8.5?

Yes, contact O&O for a downgrade license and tell them why.. they are now aware of all this and will issue a downgrade key however under the terms of that, you downgrade and can not come back up to v10 without another purchase.

I have no need for v10 even if they fixed it. I have 8.5 (XP) and 8.6 (vista) and the key works for both, at least mine does

Nick,

I've been running v10 for some time, doing the name defrag when needed...what is the SPACE issue with v10?  :-?

I'm using XP..... what should I do at this point, if I "downgrade", do I need to go through ALL the steps as you listed...or start from the Defrag step?

When O&O version 10 runs a COMPLETE\NAME defrag it leave space in the sectors between the files and does not compact them closely together. That is fine, however if a SPACE defrag is run for any reason it fills in those gaps left by the COMPLETE\NAME defrag and makes the original defrag, useless

O&O v8 and 8.5 (and 8.6) COMPLETE\NAME defrag compacts the space between the files and therefore a SPACE defrag run as regular maintenance does not hinder or remove the advantages of a COMPLETE\NAME defrag.

Also, by allowing free space to exist in sectors between files as the v10 NAME defrag allows, it lets a hard drive fragment faster by letting that free space fill up. Caches that are simply temp areas take up space in the critical file zone instead of collecting at the end of the data block, etc.

Even if you never run a SPACE defrag, the NAME defrag leaves blank slack space between the file clusters.

Switching is up to you. If you do, or dont, you should always use my list to optimize

Nick, I have a question for you. Some of us are on a tight budget and cant get these payware products you speak of such as NOD32 and the defrag progam. For my defrag I use the pre-installed vista, and AVG for antivirus. and thing better thats freeware?

Avast or AVG are the only 2 freeware products and I would still shut them down completely because there are many reports of those two creating problems in FSX during file access. You do not need to shut down NOD32

There is no freeware defrag solution that will accomplish what O&O does. Doing those tweaks without O&O will produce very limited results.

Has anyone been successful in receiving a response?

I have Vista w/ O&O 10 and wanted to get v8.6.  It took a while for me to get a response, but four emails later, I got two responses from two different people.  One person sent me a link that required I fill out a form to have v10 disabled and v8.6 enabled.  The other person's response was much more pleasing, as they sent me a link to receive a free registration key for v8.6.  At least now I get to keep v10 in case I would like to use it again someday.  :-?

I mailed to sales@oo-software.com  Good Luck.

If after you go through the normal channels you may not be getting service, ask for Leia

She knows who I am, she knows the situation and you will get your key

Nick,

Thank you for doing this.  It took them a few days but they finally responded this morning and offered me a link to a free copy of version 8.6 professional.  They are recommending version 8.6 since they say it contains a few bug fixes to version 8.5 plus it's vista compatible.  When I used the link the download page gave you a choice to download the 32bit or 64bit version of 8.6 professional.

8.6 is fine and I do beleve the 8.0 and 8.5 key works with 8.6 as well but I would need to confirm that.

Does 8.6 work with XP Pro? If so, can You share that link? My copy (a recent DL) locks-up ~40-50% of the time after I click continue without registration.....8.6 may have the fix for that......

Hi Nick,

I used O&O V10 and did many COMPLETE/NAMED defrags and now I got V8.6 for Vista. Now what I have to do is uninstall the V10 and install V8.6 and do the defrags? Is that all?
