No more fsx on windows vista

I have officially had enough. After buying all my new equipment installing everything for the past several days and just about getting things where I like them my simulator is not responding when I start it up and after 20 to 30 seconds I get a message saying A fatal error has occurred. Everything else is working top notch and wicked fast. I wont put up with this BS operating system anymore >:( >:(.
I am taking vista out and putting XP 64 bit back in, my vista disc will now find a nice new home preventing stains on my coffe table as a very shiny coaster. My question is will I have to do anything in my fsx config to take advantage of the quad cores on my processor or is that already taken care of by service pack 2. I just want to make sure that I am not going to be limiting my new hardware by going back to XP. The only thing that has changed since I installed the OS is I replaced the QX9650 I picked up originally with a QX9770. Any help is welcome

My specs
Intel Qx9770 3.2ghz quad core processor
Asus maximus extreme motherboard
8 gigs reaperx dual channel pc 10666 ddr3 memory @ 1333 mhz
EVGA 9800 GX2 1gb ddr3 graphics card
Seagate barracuda 1 terabyte hard drive
Ultra X3 1600 watt power supply
Coolermaster cosmos full tower case
Liquid cooling throughout.
Vista Ultimate 64 bit(Do youself a favor dont buy this pile of garbage)

Well, I thank god I bought only Windows Vista Home Premium [32 bit]. So far, it's working wonders for me and FSX.

It sounds like it's a hardware issue, not Vista.  I'm running FSX on 64-bit Vista Ultimate and everything runs great and I love it.  By going back to XP, you're limiting yourself to 3 GB of RAM.  Who else have you spoken to about the errors you're getting?  Are you sure you have all the correct drivers (for 64-bit Vista)?

Post what the wording of the error to see if anyone knows what the issue is. ;)

You have a 9770?  I'm soooo jealous!

It is not true. I have Vista Ultimate 32bit on one HD and XP SP2 on an another HD. Before I start I exchange the Boot HD Vista or XP. Both are runing with FSX SP2 Acceleration pack. On both Systems I use O&O Pro V10 with Nick's advices. No troubles at all never got any Hardware problems. So you may be having a Hardware problem.
First run the system and see when the trouble start.

Now before jumping off the deep end and making a mountain out of a mole hill, how about we try and fix the problem?

Can you provide any more info on the fatal error? Perhaps tell us anything else you believe is important in the error message.

I would also recommend you read through NickN's sticky at the top of the forum and follow it to the T.

Personally, I would start from scratch to make sure everything was installed correctly. Uninstall FSX and restart the computer. Install the latest DirectX from here: http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/deta ... laylang=en and install the latest C++ library from here: http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/deta ... laylang=en and install the latest drivers for your graphics card. Restart. Reinstall FSX and onc eit has finished open it up and load a flight. Exit FSX, restart the comp and install SP2 (from the fsinsider.com website) or Acceleration (if you purchased it). Find your FSX.cfg by turning on hidden files and browsing to C:\Users\[your username]\AppData\Microsoft\FSX and delete it. This will make FSX write a new one according to the changes in SP2/Acceleration. Run FSX, it may take a while to load, and load a flight. Close FSX, restart and your copy should be running without a problem. To improve overall performance do a defrag as per NickN's instructions. If you have any problems or errors during this process post the details and we'll try to work it out for you.

For your system I would not even consider going back to XP. You can only use 3gb of RAM, and you loose the performance enhancements of the quad core.

I have both Vista 64 bit and Vista 32 bit here, with FSX Standard and FSX Deluxe, no problems whatsoever.  In fact, for me, it turned out better in Vista than XP Pro, I went back for 24 hours only.  Then quickly put Vista back on, only did it in the first place because of an unconnected problem which is now resolved.

I 1st had Vista Home 32bit then installed Vista 64bit.

64bit gave me big time hazzles especially getting WOAI packages to work. Got error message at start up "Cant load Files".

I then un-installed 64 bit , loaded 32 bit and things are are very smooth. For now I will stick with 32 bit Vista.

My 2 cents.

Try disabling all the intel power saving modes in BIOS.

After spending a full day doing a complete reinstall. this system is purring like a kitten. turns out it was a error with defender conflicting with some of my other software. So I am back up and running but I still am not the biggest fan of vista. 1 or 2 more service packs should do the trick.

EXCELLENT !  :)

There's no point in running state of the art hardware, on an 8 year old O/S. Vista is even going on two years old. Every new release of DirectX will be Vista only.. efficient use of quad (or more) cores will be Vista only.. and on, and on...

[b][i][font=Serif][color=#0000ff][size=16]Be advised: I did about 6 reinstalls since buying FSX over a year ago and now Microsoft won't allow me to use my key and won't give me another.
I'll have to buy another new FSX game at WalMart for $30.00

I've done more than 6 reinstalls of FSX and never had a key problem.  I know MS is paranoid about privacy, but at the end of the day the application is legally yours and they should not block your right to use it.

I have hated Vista Premium 32 bit, but in truth it has not really been the source of my problems - hardware and drivers have been the main culprits.  FSX now runs well over a quadcore 6850 with 4 gigs of good RAM, going back to XP is not an option - and the thought of returning to FS9 after the FSX visuals is simply not to be contemplated.

My rig is fast but it is already out of date.

Or maybe someone could tell me a work around for  this product key crap nonsense.

::)

I`ve swapped from one machine to another, formatted and reinstalled at least twice that amount, never a problem!  For a first post or any post you should not be asking for a workaround to the product key install.
