And now something ELSE

I had a corrupt scenery.cfg entry somewhere.  Instead of persisting with trying to find it, I thought I would reinstall.

Now I have an error message that I have never seen before:

Error Number 0x80040702
Failed to Load DLL:GameuxInstallhelper

I went into the knowledge base and found it in the middle of a technical paper on game building.

Is this an FSX DLL, or a System DLL

How can I cure it?  Has anyone had experience with it.

Scenery.cfg corruption is easily fixed. There is a tool out there that does it automatically but I dont have a link to it right off hand.

As for your error... there -may be- remnants of the program left over causing the error

You need to run the Microsoft Installer Cleanup utility and flush anything that has to do with FSX, then install the product

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/290301

be careful with that... only remove FSX product entries

Nick:  many thanks.  I fixed it by finding that CC cleaner has an installation utility, and it came up with FSX.  I uninstalled and was able to reinstall FSX without further problem.

CC also tells me I have many registry issues, but following your advice I have stayed away from reg cleaners for Vista.  Have you indentified one you consider safe?  I certainly have many leftovers after a total uninstall of everything including the FSX folder.

I would be glad to learn the details of the fsx.cfg utility when you recall the link,

thx Ian

One difference I have noticed is that with Acceleration installed my program list no longer has FSX as a separate program.  Therefore the Control Panel uninstall/Change facility does not find it.

I assumed that this now represents the entire FSX and that all would be uninstalled, but that does not seem to be the case.

We non-technical users are babes in the woods.

If I had only known this simple piece of information I could have saved myself a whole bunch of trouble.
