Beautiful Airport Locations

OK, so I'm looking for some beautiful and fun locations to fly. I tend to stick close to home for the simple reason I know where and what I am flying over, but let's face it, it gets old. My home airport is KRNO. So can I get some suggestions of beautiful areas to check out. I am open to virtually everything. I have tried just picking airports out of the FSX list, but damn there are a lot of them and I am more often then not unsuccessful in finding a nice local.

My suggestion if you haven't flown there yet is KFCA ;).

You can take a look at the "High detail airport/scenery" list in the FS Learning Center. It list some of the better quality places to fly. Thats usually what I do when I'm getting bored.

KMRY, monterey. i think it's pretty nice, right on california's coast a little south of san franscisco. has a 7000' runway and a smaller one as well, parallel to each other.

I would recommend giving a try to Bella Coola, after installing the freeware scenery by Holger Sandmann. The area gets beautifull with that scenery, definitely worth hours of exploration.

Additionnaly, one of the areas I fly the most is Concrete Mum, nice valleys and mountains, lots of small airfields, good starting point for ramdom exploration.

Finally, a nice little scenic tour can be made starting from Ulrichen in Swizzerland, and following the valley down to Sion... or further away to find the Geneva lake, as you wish.

As a bonus, In Austria, the Innsbruck airport and surrounding city looks quite good in FSX default already.

Hi,

I like flying out from Prestwick Airport EGPK and head straight for the hills.

Some others are Sumburgh up in the Highlands of scotland EGPB.

Four Corners in Alaska.

Loads of places in Alaska

I like Sitka...particularly for the hills....if you like steaming around low level in a military fast jet. With the right weather, it can all look very pretty. Try going from Juneau to Haines, nice when the sun is setting! Dutch harbour is always interesting too.

The Seattle-Bremerton-Victoria route is good in the right conditions.

I agree with Loki, Alaska has some absolutely gorgeous areas to fly.  My personal recommendation would be Palmer Municipal (PAAQ).  Fly out of Palmer Muni around dawn, and you are guaranteed some breathtaking views.

Have fun!

Ah, one that just came back to my mind: give a try to Buochs in Swizzerland. It's a small airport with AI traffic, in the middle of the mountains and right next to a huge lake.

The aera is beautifull at sunset, it's really cool for GA flying and also for some gliding. Very near (right behind a hill) there is a small military airport named Alpnach Mil, standing where the valley meets the lake, perfect scenery for gliding :)

And of course, Interlaken is not far away, so you've got plenty of stuff to explore in a small radius ;)
