Hi Everybody,

Newbie here. New to Simaviation, sims, gaming and online gaming, but not PCs, forums or the net. Apologies for this post and its probable length, but I just have too many questions about getting setup for FSX. I've searched here and other forums, google, etc. and come up with on-going confusion/uncertainty.

Hi Naja002, and welcome to SimViation :)

Acceleration is en expansion pack as you said. It's called Acceleration (the original name was Adrenalyne, changed before shipping to the stores) because it contains a very nice Hornet, a Reno-racing style Mustang, and a nice Reno-racing system with several tracks to race.

You do not NEED it, but as a newbie OR experimeted flyer, you might want it in order to enjoy:
- carrier operations with the Hornet (or any aircraft that is configured correctly)
- air races
- new missions
- 3 nice aircrafts: Hornet, Mustang (racing modified version, not the original WWII type) and Merlin helicopter
- and some nice other features

You will however have enough to discover by simply restraining yourself to the original FSX with its two official free patches (SP1 and SP2, both also included in Acceleration).

I'll leave the rest of the answers to the experts.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but if you want to fly with another simmer whom has Acceleration installed online, you also must have Acceleration installed. That would be the only reason I can think of in regards to "needing" Acceleration.

Nice PC setup BTW. ;)

Naja, I'm pretty new here myself, and I just went through the headache of installing FSX over the past few days...  The one piece of advise I have to offer is don't try to install acceleration until you've verified that your video card meets the requirements.  Its not a matter of it not running well, it simply won't let you try to run FSX at all...  Then you have major issues, because you won't be able to install Service Pack 2, because you have acceleration installed.... And if youre running Vista, even after you try uninstalling acceleration, windows will still think its there, and will continue to prohibit you from installing SP2.

I had to end up buying a new vid card, and then installing acceleration to get FSX to work at all... which is cool, but if I hadnt installed acceleration to begin with it may have worked without those upgrades.  I will never know.

That computer will get high to maxed settings in FSX. (Depends on your traffic settings)

I think that Acceleration user can fly with the guys that only have SP2... I read that somewhere not long ago, but not too sure anymore...
In any case, Acceleration is just SP2 with additionnal content, so the network system is the same as SP2 alone.

I wouldn't bother with Acceleratin unless you want the features that it gives.

Thanx for the responses Guys! Apologies for the delay in getting back to this:
1) Wkends are my busy time
2) Been having major on/off problems connecting to Simviation. Its not my pc or connection--everything works fine. Just can't connect to Simviation 70% of the time....???
3) Didn't receive any topic reply notifications on this thread. I have on a couple of others and my settings are correct....???

Everything is ordered and on its way--including the Expansion pack. I figured that I would go a head and get it. I think/guess that I will want it when I get ready to do the online-multiplayer and up-grade to Vista x64.

I've started using the LiveATC.net. Just so I can get used to the chatter. But how does the chatter work for multiplayer? Is there a separate program that I need to install or is what is  already in FSX what everybody uses?

Can I expect any issues with XP Pro 32-bit?

Any pointers on a good set of headphones? Low-cost prefferably....

TIA
