Hey gang, long time no post. :)

I just upgraded to Vista and I'm running DX10 (preview?) with my 8800 and loving it.  Picked up Acceleration and I'm sure this question has been asked but is there a way to use the carriers in free flight mode?  I can't find time on the airport listing....and I don't want to have to do missions all the time to fly from the carriers.

Where the heck are they at???  :o

Search for "aicarriers2r2"....this addon will allow you to
place carriers and escorts in free flight....

Alternatively I placed Free Flight Acceleration carriers in Avsim and these are now released.  They give GPS facility when static, two versions supplied, static and moving.  Using FSX you can get straight on deck from the menu, using the airport code.  Alternatively, key the code in the GPS to find the carrier from any location when its static and in the home port.  The normal Acceleration carrier facilities exist.

Areas are Plymouth to Lands End
Persian Gulf (Iran)
Aegean Sea, Chania and Heraklion (Iraklion).

Go to Avsim, File Library, change the category to Flight Simulator X-Scenery and then search for FSX Carrier.  Their are versions for non Acceleration users too, using the standard static carrier.

Is this the only way to get carriers in free flight?  An add-on?

I figured with Acceleration having carrier missions you would be able to just select a carrier from the airport selection list and free flight from it like any other airport....that's crap, lol.  >:(

No, the FSX moving CV'sa will not appear on in the airport list. And the
only way to START from one is to use reiders carrier addon.

There are a couple of default carriers in various places in FSX
Acceleration but I don't know their location or 'sailing schedules'.
It's just too much of a PITA to try to use them.

Instead, I have two 'addons' by the same author that allow me to
engage in carrier ops at my pleasure.

The first, and the one I recommend, is the 'aicarriers' package. This
will allow you to 'launch' a carrier fleet, with a composition of your
choosing, from a drop-down menu in flight.  You can place the
fleet at your current position, 5 miles out or 10 miles out.
You can also change the fleets course while in free flight.

The other package is the "AI Boat Utility" which allows you to use
Google Earth to create sailing routes for any of the FSX ships.
The utility will compile your  sailing routes into a traffic BGL much
like AI aircraft. You will then have your own 'default' FSX carriers
placed anywhere you want them and sailing on courses and
schedules of your creation.

Both of those packages ( by Lamont Clark ) are easy to use to
implement 'free flight' carrier capability.
