the one you have highlighted is a TEXT DOCUMENT and not the right file... that is a backup

you want the CFG file

It's the one that simply says fsx

fsx
CFG File
139kb

Right click and open with Notepad.

Make your changes and save.

Then, place a shortcut  on the desktop.  Saves the bother of finding it again.

To be precise, the "fsx.txt" file is only generated whenever the sim crashes for some reason. It will be sent to MS during the error reporting process (if you choose to send it!).  Otherwise, it is totally useless.  ;D

Agreed, absolutely.  I've long since stopped the machine sending error reports to Microsoft.  I think they have a dedicated server with an automatic delete function - nothing is ever heard again.

Easy guys, some poor soul probably makes a living counting those errors..........

Keep sending them or his family will never get to Hawaii for a vacation.

Forgive me Fr for I have grieviously wandered from the path of MS righteousness.

Keep in mind that ACES (the folks who program FS) are currently setting their triage list for FSnextGen, so the reports their "Dr. Watson" program generate are extremely valuable at this juncture.  ;)

The word 'triage' is very apt!

Apart from the technicalities the automatically generated error reports would supply, I hope that they canvass users for ideas as well.

Putting back alpha fade, a next gen ATC, genuine continuity for FSX add-ons in nextgen, buying a better mesh from the many available, adopting some of the UTX and FTX technologies or products under licence, a much better landclass, and listening to people like yourself and NickN.

And give us a break, don't get too far out in front of the then top of the line hardware.
