I haven't got Vista installed, but a friend of mine does, and he seems unable to make aircraft.cfg edits with notepad as well.

This must be terribly important with Vista.

In the old days, we used to use computers so we could write things down. Before that, we used paper and pen, but the ink was messy.

Computers were a vast improvement over pen and paper, you could make edits in your documents with no erasing and pencil sharpening and Notepad was simplicity in itself, perfect for aircraft.cfg edits and so on.

Vista is just another improvement with computers, obviously eliminating the need to do anything anymore, it simply won't let you.

Just trust M'soft, it'll all be ok   ;D

Seriously, I don't know what the solution is, keep us posted when you find out though.

I actually had to make the edits for my Vista challenged friend on my PC using XP, then I emailed him the modified aircraft.cfg so he could carry on as usual  8-)

fsx.cfg is not hard to find in Vista.

Easiest way is to use Search, make sure he checks Hidden Files and Folders in Advanced Search (a tab), types in fsx.cfg

What he will see is the notepad icon with only fsx as the name.

Open that and there is his cfg file.

The more correct way is to find it with the string - C, hisname, User Data, Roaming, fsx.

It is not in the Program Files, Microsoft FSX where the rest of the application is.

Boy 777:  when you copy the texture you also have to give the texture the next number in series in the aircraft file.

You have to paste the information carefully and in the correct way.  But in Vista this is further hampered by security restrictions.  Just save the file as 'all files' rather than 'Text Documents' and do this temporarily to the desktop.  Move the original to a safe place, I put mine in a backup sub folder in the same aircraft folder.  Move the file back from the desktop to the working folder, sorted!  The very next time you do this in the same folder you will probably find you can save direct to the folder itself rather than use the desktop now.
