A body blow

I have UT and GEX installed.  It has had an effect on FPS but simply by dragging them down into the thirties.  No big deal.

I installed on top the Victoria + scenery and I got hammered.  FPS down into the 15s.

Sure I'm running a quadcore at Very Dense/Very Dense, but a hit of 20fps might suggest something about the scenery design.

It's important for designers for FSX to recognise that big hits by scenery or aircraft really hurts in this game.  In my case I can turn the settings down, but it's fascinating and worrying to see default aircraft and default scenery and autogen give a return in the 100+ FPS and then see it knocked back with a hammer as the add-ons pile on.

But UT and GEX is reasonable, Victoria+ is too big a blow.

Yep.

And a fair amount of addon scenery keeps getting queried at massive rates, perhaps with an incorrect QMID level.

I tried that Victoria scenery also, --(well, it is close to home  ;D), and also noticed quite a hit. Did notice tho that there is one heck of a lot of boat traffic with it. I recall it helped to play with the settings for the marine traffic.--Might help.

Sandmann's Victoria comes with its own AI.

It's made for blowing macca22au's new hardware. :-X

But it is brilliant scenery, that's the rub, and I would really like it to work.

I spent a great year in Victoria many years ago.

Lived in Saanich, taught university at Oak Bay, nearly took tea in the beautiful Empress Hotel, visited politicians in the classical Parliament House.  I flew RW out of CYYJ, which included a winter flight from Victoria to San Francisco, a story in itself.

On a later trip I did the seaplane thing from Victoria to downtown Vancouver.  And stayed in the Empress - a bit ordinary really.

The ferry between Sidney and Vancouver is one of the most beautiful trips in the world.

So you can see why I wanted the scenery.  I hope Holger et al might be able to patch it a bit to make it more fluid and less demanding on the CPU.
