Several FSX questions

I'm relatively new to Simviation, and to FS, and I've got a few questions about some things on FSX.
1. Frequently, aircraft I download seem to have missing textures when I use them in the game; different parts of the aircraft will be black instead of whatever color they're supposed to be. Frequently, color is missing from things you look at very often while flying, and this makes the aircraft useless to me. Why does this happen, and is there anything I can do to fix it?
2. I've been adding some of Tim Conrad's fs9 models to FSX, and most of them work fine; 2 or 3 of them, however, don't appear have cockpit glass (they do in the jpegs included with the downloads). Can I fix this somehow?
3. I have a few fs9 aircraft that have gauges that don't work (presumably because they're too old for FSX). Can I modify what gauges the model uses in the VC by editing the panel.cfg?
