Asking for clearance to cross a runway?

Before taxiing across an active runway, I know I'm supposed to be cleared by Ground/ATC to do so. Is there a way to ask for this permission, or is it that if they tell me to 'taxi via taxiway... ' that clearance is assumed?

If you've been cleared to taxi to a runway, and not told specifically to hold short of another runway.. you can taxi across every other runway at the airport (if they're along the path ground gave you).

ATC will all ways advise you when to hold short at any point during your taxi from or to the runway weather it is a runway or just another taxiway. 8-)

Also, if traffic is heavy, it is always best to gun it across the runway when they clear you. Don't forget to look both ways even when you are cleared

Being the careful Motorcyclist that I am, and in constant fear of my life, I always stop, and look both ways before crossing a Runway...

...!
I just wish other Pilots...(and Motorists)....would do the same!...
