panel adjustment ?

Postby congo » Thu Feb 07, 2008 6:47 am

Ok, I've never figured this one out. I want to be able to drop the scenery window down to the top corners of the panel, below the top of the panel, so it looks like this:

........... and not this:

Sure, I can stretch it, but it changes back every time I change views :P

Not sure quite what you`re looking for but try this.  Press ctrl and Q when in the 2D mode.  Hold them both until you see the amount of scenery in front of you that you want.  Pressing the hat switch in any direction on a joystick will place the view back to default.

I doubt this is what you want, but there you go anyway.....

This is one of those funny MSFS things...

This is the panel.cfg paragraph that designates that view...

[Default View]
X=0
Y=0
SIZE_X=8192
SIZE_Y=2500

Where size X & Y are self-explanatory. To get the view "lower" (bigger Y coordinate), you'd obviously increase the SIZE_Y value. And it does work... But it's weird. There are times when it worked perfectly for me.. and times where the change didn't stay in effect until re-starting the sim (sometimes more than once)..

I never did figure it out. It's almost like you need to start from scratch for it work right the first time... i.e.

This is covered in detail in the Panels SDK. There's much, much more but

That's how you "aim" the view.

The three numbers following ' View_Forward_Dir '

Thanks Brett, that worked perfectly, I even guessed the right pixel first go :)

Something just happened at exactly the same time I corrected the panel.cfg, and no, I didn't do anything other than change the Y value on that panel...... I can no longer access any of the menus at the top of the screen in ANY aircraft :P

I know it's not your fault Brett, but I'm blaming you anyway  ;D

It's really wierd, why would it affect the game globally?

Methinks it may not be related to this panel, I'll continue testing, I may drop the VP2 out of the aiplane folder and see if that cures it, if so, we know it was the panel.

Thanks heaps for the reply and the help, I'll post back in a while with results.

I've tried several things to no avail, this is odd. It was a fresh install of FSX, I can do it again if this isn't resolved, no biggy :)

I'd say it's not related to the panel mod though.

Edit:

I found this only happens in full screen mode, I also adjusted my AA driver settings about the same time I did that panel mod Brett.

I'm suspecting a driver/Fullscreen issue or quirk.

I'll keep cheking here.. this is interesting.

As for  "why" ?   I still don't know why sometimes the Size_Y adjustment works just fine.. and sometimes I have to restart the sim for it to take.

24 hours later and I'm none the wiser. I'm having inconsistent displays, sometimes it's correct, sometimes not.

This is FSX SP1, the only addon aircraft is this one I'm working on, maybe it's just not as compatible as I'd like it to be, but also, I'm no panel expert by a long shot, so I could have muffed the panel from hour one.

I also left Brisbane with 2 gallons of fuel and fell 1000 metres short of the runway at the Gold Coast's Coolangatta airport on my sim flight last night, and the sim is telling me my fuel is critical every few seconds, I opted for a schoolyard but hit the Reverend James's car in the church carpark, skidding into the schoolyard and crashing into the playground equipment..... no sim kids were injured on this flight :P

It's ok, I just hate having to re-size that window, I'll just fly more from the VC, which doesn't have the issue.

Is SP2 likely to make more of my older addons less compatible ?

Edit:

Ok, seems to be working as follows, All is back to normal, I had changed some things I probably shouldn't have, this just worked consistently after 3 restarts of FSX................

; VP2 Panel
;
[Window Titles]
Window00=Main Panel
Window01=Radio_Panel
Window02=GPS
Window03=Mini Panel
;
//--------------------------------------------------------
[Window00]
file=vp1_panel.BMP
size_mm=1024
window_size_ratio=1.000

I got out of that loop.. so I'm of no help. If it's not a genuine, FSX only model (right down to having seperate interior/exterior models and compiled in GMAX per the FSX/SDK if it's an add-on)... I don't have it in my hangar. The chances of bugs showing up aren't worth it..

Hehe, No problemo, and I don't blame you. If MS don't support it why should anyone else.

I just want something Volksplane-ish to get a bit of sim time on before I fly the real one :)

Thanks for the help Brett.

The plane is still an unknown factor, I've arranged a LAME to come and check over the airframe. I'm a wood boatbuilder and it looks good so far to me, but I've only done one airworthiness course and that was on a metal glider, so I really can't say, even though they gave me a certificate on wood :P

The engine has 36 hours in one month in 1993 since Complete overhaul, but it's been in the weather and is in a sad state, not sure where to start with that, I'll prolly send the mags away for refurbish first, once I get the ok for the airframe and I find out if the engine is still ok or not.

Still a way off, I've set a goal for 1 year.

It's mine, I have the logbooks but no bill of sale, my sick friend didn't want to deal with the transfer as he wasn't feeling well when I picked up the plane, I'm not too concerned over change of ownership until that hurdle arrives.

Apparently, the anti-terror laws have made change of ownership etc, ridiculously complex. The sooner this hundred year war on terror is over the better ....
