P51 Mustang  "Gunfighter" download. Repaint?

Postby SS_Dave » Mon Jan 28, 2008 3:37 pm

I downloaded the Gunfighter P51 from the site and there is no panel or exterior graphics. What did I do wrong?

Plane flies great, it just looks like a semi opaque ghost plane.

Also, what is a repaint?
Do I need other files other than the ones downloaded with a repaint?

thanks

Dave

Well I'm not expert and not been doing it very long, but a repaint as i understand it is just the grapics of the skin of the aircraft and nothing else.

Give us a link to the page with the exact file you downloaded, so one of us can look at it without trying to guess

Ok, here is the link, it is to page 2 of the Vintage aircraft.
Looking at P51 "Gunfighter".

http://www.simviation.com/fsxvintage2.htm

I see now that it is a repaint, which was explained  by steve s as
just that. A repaint of a complete, functioning, loadable aircraft. :-/

My question is then, can someone point me to a file to get a complete,
loadable, flyable, seeable P51?
This is for FSX.

thanks

Dave

You have a magnificent one right on the next page:
http://www.simviation.com/fsxvintage3.htm
(The one where you can see the VC, and a red writting "P51D MUSTANG" on the picture). I have downloaded and installed on my FSX SP2. It is complete and it works perfect, but it is a bit heavy on the FPS.

Okay, I gave that a shot. doesn't work even a little bit.

The file I downloaded was the FSX/2004 Civilian P51D.
This is not a zipped file, but an exe installation file.
Should I have followed the default path for the installation? ( I don't think
so since airplanes in FSX are burried under SimObjects/Airplanes.
So, I installed under the sim/airplanes sub dir.
Big mistake I guess. So, I create a sub dir for the P51D and move the appropriate panel, model etc sub dirs into it. Ok, now it works, sort of.
I can see the grapics or paintings of the airplane at a distance, but not up close. Up close it turns to a ghost like silver reflective image of a mustang. The gauges and interior are a wreck.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks
Dave

Here is an advise:
Create a temporary folder, for example c:\temp\FSX.
Launch the install program of that mustang again, and tell him to go to that new folder. At least in this way, you are sure to find everything the program has created.

Once the install is complete, go to that folder, and transfer the files to your FSX folder, one category at a time. First the gauges, then the effects, and finally the plane. In this way you're sure not to forget anything.

PS: "not up close" you said... have a look in your display settings in FSX, and ensure the global texture size is set to the max.

thanks

I did the temp file method at home and that is the only way I got it working.
I'll check the graphic settings.
My computer at home doesn't have much for ram.
Might not be enough horsepower to get it done.

thanks
