Comm Question!

Postby Cobra » Mon Jan 28, 2008 6:24 pm

When using the radio stack in the default 172 the PC seems to manually set com/transponder frequencies! For example, if im on the ground at bournemouth when i first start i flight it tunes you to Bournemouth Ground and when you change frequencies on the radio stack nothing happens...? It just stays on it untill you take off, when it insists you must only listen to London Centre...what if i want to tune into the ATIS from my destination which is only 20nm away?

Is there some realism setting i need to uncheck or something?

ALSO, is there anyway of getting regional QNH or QFE setting when talking to tower?

This is really bugging me! Thanks for any help :)

You should be able to change frequencies any time... The only time the sim does it for you; is when you select an action from the comm window... For example, when you first start a flight and bring up the comm window.. the option you take will tune the required freq into comm1... or if ATC hands you off.. you're next comm window will have an option to switch to the hand-off freq.

This might sound like a silly question... Are you selecting your freq in standby.. and then flipping it active ?  Even in the middle of an IFR flight, you can switch to a nearby ATIS in comm1... but you don't need to use comm1... you can use comm2 for all your ATIS/AWOS/ASOS.. just make sure you've got "both" comms set for monitoring on the audio panel.. and leave comm1 for all your ATC stuff.

The radios are set by your default flight. And if the radio has a standby frequency than you can set the frequency of the ATIS then switch the stand by to active then after you get the info switch back. As for your altimeter most of them have a switch you can change to QFE or QNH
I think once you made the switch that ATC will respond with the apporiate answer But I am not sure as I have never used the other system 8-)

"Both" lets you hear both radios... and just like in real life, sometimes there's overlapping reception.

Set AI traffic high.. go to a major airport..  let the comm window do its thing (so you'll be talking to ground, or tower, or whatever is appropriate).. and then tune ATIS into comm2... (you might get a headache).

As far as tuning comm1 according to the ATC menu.. that happens automatically when you select an option.. Unless there's a realism setting you've change..
