Aircraft packs

Postby Mermaid Man » Wed Jan 23, 2008 7:01 pm

I've browse this site for aircraft packs, I can't seem to find one. There are aircraft available to download, however it appears to be that you need to download several files just for a single plane- pretty long winded.

Is there a pack (or a large collection of packs) of aircraft, ie a 700-4GB ISO, with collection of civilian and military, that is in the right structure- all it needs is copying into the FS-X aircraft directory.

Go to the main menu on SimV, click on 'downloads' on the side bar, and you will be taken to a webpage with the varous catagories of aircraft for the different versions of the flightsim. Sure, there are a lot of texture packs for download, especially in the civil jets section, but there are still a lot of stand alone packages there. Atleast i'm assuming so, I don't frequent the jets section very often... ;D

Yes I've seen that, but many aren't complete packs (you need other files) I just want a large collection ready to go.

Could someone create a torrent file perhaps?

Yes, true. But as i'm trying to say, there are still quite a few complete, standalone aircraft packs available for download

Which ones though? I downloaded 10+ but most of them were updates. I'd rather have a torrent file for a large collection and just leave it a day downloading, rather than spend all day downloading one plane at a time. The dowloading site doesn't like Opera either.

Dowloading isn't working, only managed to get 1 aircraft. Just getting timeouts.

So please if someone could create a mega pack of aircraft (one pack for helis, another for prop, and another jet engine) I'll be grateful.

I have downloaded countless aircraft from Simviation and have found SEVERAL complete aircraft packages. They are there.

Now, if you are asking for someone here to "bundle" all of the different textures for each aircraft together for you I am afraid that you will probably be waiting a long time. You are just going to have to do it the same way all the rest of us do ... one texture at a time.

Problem is that different people want different planes. What I like, may not be the same as you would like, so megapacks would just be a waste of up/download bandwith, as many of the downloaded planes would then be deleted or never used. Look for the packagas in the downloadsections, those are often whole planes, somethimes even with installers. avoid  the ones where it says that you need original files or aircrafts. There are more than enough for most of us. OR else you can visit the payware planes (aerosoft, justflight etc.) there are many ready to install planes - but they will cost you an arm and a leg. and some of them are actually worth it.

Keep hunting and you shall be rewarded. I know I did.

I'd be willing to pay a couple of quid for a DVD mega pack of airplanes, with an installer/menu system.

Even a 20GB download isn't a problem-  downloading planes that I'm not interested in doesn't bother me, however using the lousy download site is just a major pain.

It's also for my father who's building a FS-X rig. He doesn't have the time to spend clicking on each plane, downloading one by one, unzipping, moving etc etc. He's got his own business to run. Downloading is through FTP which only limits two at a time as well at 30kps. The selection pages are a mess, there should be seperate "complete aircraft" and "updates only" pages, so you don't have to trawl through pages just to find where a complete plane is.

Pretty poor imo.

Then he probably doesn't have time to do flight simming "imo".

Whatever.

30kps verus 400kps on my connection, which I can leave unattended if there was a torrent file...compared to sitting in front of my computer for every single plane download.

If you don't mind spending "a few quid" then what you need to do is go buy the payware versions of all the aircraft that you want ... they are out there. There are quite a few FSX Add-On Packages out there that are payware, go get em.

Also, if you don't mind spending a few quid, you can sign up as a member to SimV to allow faster downloading! It is supply and demand mate, how much demand is there to make it worth the person assembling the package's while? How much money are you willing to spend to make it worth his/her while? ;)

PS: Paying someone money to assemble a package of aircraft is almost the same as someone taking the plane to a store, and selling it. You are not allowed to sell the download, I am afraid. ;)

If you did say 2-3 a day selected planes from selected sites and read a bit about them first you`d have no problems.  Over time the collection builds up, thats how we all do it.  Then place them on a disk for your Dad.  If his time is such a premium anyway then he can afford to wait.

Nobody, but nobody, should be bundling even freeware aircraft and charging just for the packaging.  Its against all moral codes and ethics, not to mention the authors personal copyright.  No gain without a little pain.....
