How do you use the approach hold switch?

its for an ILS approach. i think.
but you type in the heading of the runway you are landing on into the course. then type the ILS frequency of the runway into the NAV 1 in the radio shack. and once ATC says cleared ILS, you press the aprroach hold button, and it lines you up with the runway
