Freeze Up

Lately, during flight the game would freeze up. The sound was still on but nothing else is happending. All control buttons and keyboard are inoperative. I can move my mouse but the pointer turned from "arrow" to "hourglass". I cannot reboot using Ctrl/Alt/Delete. Sometimes the game will reset automatically but most of the time I had to reboot thru the PC. I installed SP! and SP2 not long ago but uninstalled them. That did not make any difference. I'm just about on the verge of uninstalling FSX and start all over however, perhaps someone can give me alternatives.
Thanks

I had the same exact thing happen to me on occasion.
I recently lowered a few of my settings and have not had the problem since. Maybe you are pushing your system a bit too much causing it to lock up?

I think Dave hit it on the head....the same thing happened to me and I did as he did. No more problem.

It could be overheat of the video card, but normally, this cause immediate crash and reboot.... isn't it that maybe a popup (error message for example) appears behind the game window ? Upon "freeze", have you tried CTRL+ALT+DEL, CTRL+ESC or the Windows key ?

When the screen freezes, nothing worked except the sound of the aircraft. CTRL/ALT/DEL and ESC were ineffective. There were no messages except on two occasions, there were error reports stating that MS has experienced error and needs to shut down. I clicked "Send Report". As far as pushing it, I've had my present settings for awhile without any problem. In fact I even lowere my frame rate. Coincidnetally I started to experience the problem when I installed SP! And SP2 however when I uninstalled both addons, it was still doing it. I'll try lowerig my setting and see if the problem persists. I have an EVGA GeForce 7950GT PCI-E video card.

Thanks for the infor Alrot. It certainly could be a failing power supply. I had a failing hard drive which was replaced by Western Digital. After I installed it, formatted and was recognized by the PC, it seemed fine (healthy) However, an hour after I installed it, my C started to automatically reboot. I disconnected the new HD and everything was OK. Although it is not an impossibility, the new HD could be defective however, it could've also added load to the power supply. My Antec Sonata II case has a 430W power supply. I have three optical drives, and three HDs plus my EVGA GeForce 7950GT.0 video.
Come to think of it, my prolems started a few months ago when I had problems loading software. I blamed one of the hard drives so I removed it and things went well. Now the OS is detecting faral error message when I play FSX. I still have FS9 in my PC. If the problem is common, then I also should experience it playing FS9, right?
What do you think?

Not necessarily, FS2004 might not be as taxing on the system as FSX.....
