converting FS9 airplanes to FSX

Postby addictme » Fri Jan 25, 2008 7:22 am

I was wondering if there is a program that will allow a person to convert airplanes from FS9 to FSX? I have several airplanes in FS9 that I would like to bring over to FSX. Is there such a program available that's simple and user friendly? :)

There are a couple of programs out there that will place FS9 aircraft into FSX but by no means does it guarantee that it will work correctly. I think there is one here but can not remember. I know of no such program that will automatically convert aircraft into FSX. From what I have read one of the problems is the gauges in the FS9 aircraft. I am not sure which gauges work and which do not. The other little problem is the thumbnail for the aircraft so you can see the aircraft in the selection menu. I also think there have been a few Virtual Cockpit problems. 8-)

A few newer FS2004 aircraft will work with FSX. They may need a little panel editing, or maybe the prop needs fixed, but you just have to try them and see.

Yes, gauges are the main issue I run into when I try to migrate FS9 aircraft to FSX. Some work but most don't. I have been able to add new panels to some so that I have gauges but more often than not, it doesn't work.

It's a crap-shoot at best. :-/

If I need to fix any panels or gauges, is there a tutorial that'll explain all this? I'm still a-crawlin' and not a-walkin'.  Thanks for your thoughts and ideas.      8-)

There are many posts in various forums concerning "fixing" the
SP2-induced "solid prop disc" and canopy issues.

However, there are not simple fixes for the SP2-induced "refelective
texture" issues in many VC's. On some aircraft these problems
amount to just a cosmetic annoyance but on others, they
make the aircraft unflyable in FSX.

Gauges...if they are XML, they SHOULD work OK in FSX.
If they are "FS98" versions ( see the properties, version info
for the gauge ) they will NOT work.
Sometimes you can find substitutes for these gauges but it
takes alot of searching and patience to replace them.

best to just install the aircraft keeping ALL gauges used in the
"panel" folder so you can easily remove the whole installatiion
should you find that nexessary.
