Don't use FRAPS. It'll actually take away FPS lol. When you load up a flight on FSX, press CTRL+Z at the same time, twice, and at the top left corner of the monitor you should see a frame counter. Use that instead. Anything about 18-20FPS is considered "reasonable".
Keep in mind that FSX is not about FPS though. Nick will and has said this plenty of times already. You may be getting 20FPS with very smooth gameplay, but 40FPS with choppy gameplay full of stutters. It's all about how you set up your system for the game.
Your system is capable of running it at medium settings and smooth play. It's not something you'll get down in one day, or one week, but something that takes months, depending on how much time you spend playing around with the settings and tweaks. Focus on the smoothness of it, and not the FPS.
So, read the FSX stickies at the top of this forum and learn to tweak the fsx.cfg file and how to play with settings afterwards.
