Cessna problems- please help!

Postby ETaylor » Sun Jan 20, 2008 2:30 pm

Hello. I just installed 2 Cessna 150's this one- http://www.simviation.com/fsxprops4.htm

and this one-http://www.fs-tutorials.com/en/down_plane_C150_01.php

I run FSX (obviously) and when I go to fly, the cockpit appears for about a second, then the entire screen goes white.  >:( >:(It is the same for all the other veiws as well. Could this be a compatability issue? The first one was under the FSX category here at SimV. It's the first FSX download that I have from here that doesn't work.

I also have this problem with my newly installed Foxbat Aeroprakt, from SimV. Exact same issue- the cockpit appears, then the whole screen goes white, I still have sound, and I do not get any error messages or anything.

It would be far easier, when you have a problem, to post your specs including OS.  That way we don`t need to USE either ESP or guesswork as to what the problem may be.  Secondly, you stand more chances of quick concise replies and some answers to the problem.

Right, with that said I believe you are running an 8800 video card, I had to look through past messages to find that info.  I would hazard a guess you see this problem in DX10, which is only a preview at the end of the day.  Many people have this problem with it and especially with that video card.  As the drivers improve, the problem may get sorted.  In the meantime you need to stick to DX9.  You should be able to return to it in the settings.

I run a XP, 8800GTS card, 2GB ram, e6400 core 2 duo, 320 MB express card.

what is DX10 or DX9? and what do you mean by preview?

also, I downloaded these 3 planes today, and they all have the exact same problem. as i said, I've never had this before with SimV it's an entirely new thing.

Does this occur in 2d or VC views?

Update- I was just flying and now this problem is happening with all of my downloaded planes that I tested. My Jenny, my Tornado, and about 2 other non-Microsoft planes. I assume that if it happens with these that I tested, it' happening with all of my downloads. It's like it doesn't like freeware planes anymore! :o

HELP!!!! :(

Have you recently installed SP2? That might explain it.

i have the acceleration. I installed it very recently, and today is the first time this has happened. Do you think there is an issue with the SP2?

If you`re running XP then it can`t be a DX10 issue.  You may need to do a clean install of FSX and SP2 etc....  But some third party planes do not work correctly in SP2 anyway.  You might need a more up to date driver, maybe a beta version as a trial.

The last C150 you mention doesn`t come out white in SP2 though, I have it.   It needs a fix for the rain problem (blue windscreen with rain), for which you download vcrain.zip and this addresses it.  However, the gauges are not showing properly, looks like jet black broken glass.  No fix mentioned yet.

from what I saw of the cockpit on the non-SimV 150, the gauges all looked fine, as did the panel. It's strange that now this is happening with all of my freeware planes.
and what is a "clean install?"
can i uninstall the acceleration, and would this maybe fix the problem? Perhaps the SP's don't like my freeware downloads. I just installed the latest driver, that came out yesterday.
and what is a beta version? sorry, I don't understand many of these terms.

At the top of this forum is a sticky about how to cleanly install FSX with Acceleration.  I would also suggest you follow the suggestions from NickN on the 3rd post about tuning Windows XP.  I spent most of the weekend running NickN's suggestions (most of the time was in reboots and the hard drive defrags using O&O Defrag 8.5) but I went from 5-10 FPS to 22-35 FPS, and I actually increased my graphics settings along the way.

ETaylor, try deactivating the light bloom option in the FSX settings.
Most addon planes that were not created with the FSX SP2 specific tools are not compatible with this features, and the screen goes completely blank when you're in game.

so do you mean that there is no way of flying these planes in FSX with acceleration without the screen going blank?

Disable DX10, and more aircraft will be semi-compatible.

Did you try disabling light bloom?
