FSX/aircraft selection list problem

I have noted when I install certain aircraft it mixes AC names in the selection list.

e.g I recently installed the default FS9 182 cessna into my FSX. Now my aircraft names are all mixed up.

I know it has something to do with the new AC file using an existing AC file's image?

How do I correct this? Must I delete something/add or even move a file?

Thanking helpers in advance!

Mouse  ;)

I'm not too sure about the origin of the problem, but I can tell you that I have installed the default FS9 C182 into my FSX without any issue!

Are you referring to the thumbnail that FSX uses do display a image with
if so try making a thumbnail for the new aircraft and give it a unique name and stop using the other image. 8-)

Some of the third party Aircraft.cfgs` are not structured in an identical way to that of FSX, enough to work but that is all.  What happens is they are placed in 'other' category in the menu where you choose which aircraft you want.  This is fine but because FSX cannot decide what they are and who from it gets some crossed wires.  So, how do we correct this situation?  Make a list of other or just go through all the third party aircraft with a fine tooth comb.  Making sure both the wording at the left of the = sign is in a similar format to the following example and all parts have quotation marks as per the sample, which is from the default 737-800.

>>>ui_type="737-800"

>>>ui_typerole="Commercial Airliner"
>>>ui_createdby="Microsoft Corporation"
>>>description="One should hardly be surprised that the world's most prolific manufacturer of commercial aircraft is also the producer of the world's most popular jetliner. The 737 became the best-selling commercial jetliner worldwide when orders for it hit 1,831 in June 1987 (surpassing Boeing's own 727 as the previous champ). However, it wasn't always that way\s in the first few years of production, there were so few orders that Boeing considered canceling the program. They didn't, and the airplane has more than proven itself in over three decades of service."

NOTE:
The >>> do not have to be put in, they are only markers, the colour is only to highlight the changes.  If the ui_createdby="Microsoft Corporation" is not in there then you can always put one in.  I often use A N Other as the person who created it in this instance.  You must save the file, if using Vista you may need to save to the desktop first, then copy it back to the folder after removal of the original (make sure you retain a backup copy).

This should then take them out of 'other' and correct the situation with wrongly addressed aircraft, as FSX no longer gets crossed wires about them.  Next, you set about putting in new thumbnails for the aircraft that have none (just a question mark there).  This is the correct order to do things, alter the files first so its pointing to the correct aircraft in the first place, then add the thumbnails afterward where necessary.
