Is there a way to change tail numbers in FSX?

i think you do that by clicking on the airplane, then where it says details, click on that, then somewhere in there it will say change tail number

Go into the aircraft.cfg file and and find the line "atc_id=" for the aircraft whose tail number you wish to edit.  Simply type in the tail number you wish to use.  So the line would look something like this, atc_id=N1234AB.

When you load up FSX, select the aircraft and click Details.  Check to make sure the tail number you chose is listed for the aircraft.
