Problems w/Kirk Olssens F-16

Postby LeFeaoux » Fri Jan 18, 2008 3:00 pm

There WAS a post from someone else regarding this issue in the "Aircraft Wanted" forum earlier but it seems to have been deleted so I am posting here in hopes that someone can help me.

I have been trying to get Kirks F-16 to work for months now and still am having little luck with it. I CAN get it to show-up in my hangar and I CAN fly it but all of the Nav Gauges are missing and the VC is "browned-out" and shows my forward view in the hud only. If I install Eric Marciano's panel, I still have the same issue. What the heck am I doing wrong? I get multiple warnings telling me that "this gauge is designed for FS9 and is no longer supported" every time I re-install it and/or try to fly it.

I would include screen shots of what my cockpit views are but I don't know how to do that here.

See the topic 'Blinded Cockpits' to read a discussion over the issue... ;)

Thanks. I read that thread but it wasn't much help to me. I am not a computer whiz so I am not going to even attempt the SP1 and SP2 reinstall and fix that was suggested. Besides, I had these issues long before I installed "Acceleration".

I honestly don't understand this issue at all. Why does it only affect some aircraft and not others?

Well, I guess I have no choice but to abandon Kirks model as well as the others that I have the same issue with and just delete them. Too bad ... I really like Kirks model, it was nice work.

Unfortunately that fix is only for VC's that have issues with VC rain and turn blue or other colors

The issue with other glass and with the F-16 is mr Olssen must update it because his gauges are not FSX compliant. the hud is from FS98

The glass needs to be redesigned completely as do many others. Sometimes you can darken the alpha manually in PS or DXTbitmap, or sometimes its just a matter of converting the texture to 32bit over any other format.

The problem with the Viper goes further than that. An expert in textures would have to completely redesign the glass for the cockpit and its reflections to get it to work, and, the gauges need to be upgraded to at least FS2004 standards.

So unfortunately until that happens the Viper is dead in FSX for anything other than a photo-op

Thank you SOOOO much for that post! I wish someone had just told me that from the very beginning and then, I wouldn't have wasted so much time trying to get it to work. I have been trying to resolve this issue for MONTHS and banging my head into walls over it!

Of course, this is the first time I have mentioned this issue here at SimV but I did bring it up on another lame, nameless forum and they all told me that I was installing it wrong. Sheesh ... hope they all had a good laugh over it!

But seriously, thanks for letting me know. Now it is time to go-in and 86 both versions I have installed.
