I read somewhere on this forum before, but how do you set autogen so you can decide how much trees/building you want. The only reason is because sparse autogen in FSX seems like there is a lot of it.

Place these two lines under the [Terrain] heading
TERRAIN_MAX_AUTOGEN_TREES_PER_CELL=4500
TERRAIN_MAX_AUTOGEN_BUILDINGS_PER_CELL=3000
and adjust as you see fit

Just to amplify Wingo's response a little:
It's the fsx.cfg file in which these lines are inserted,
and a Trees number of 2000, and Buildings 1000 is a good start. (I think Wingo has given you the default).
Obviously it has a lot to do with your graphics card and CPU. If you are up there with a high end system you can leave the default autogen alone but pull the sliders back, but if your system isn't all that good then you will find this hack useful.
Autogen is the killer in FSX along with AI Traffic.

Try:
TERRAIN_MAX_AUTOGEN_TREES_PER_CELL=1280
TERRAIN_MAX_AUTOGEN_BUILDINGS_PER_CELL=960
Autogen slider set as high as it can go.

Heh, sorry I was a bit short. As everyone has said above, it goes in the fsx.cfg file found in C:\[your username]\Application Data\Microsoft\FSX for XP or C:\[your username]\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\FSX for Vista.
Place the tweak under the [Terrain] heading and reduce the numbers til you get the performance you require. I would suggest keeping the same ratio, or maybe favouring more trees to buildings.
In my experience, I've found that autogen isn't really that bad in FSX. It is the Scenery Complexity that kills my day. That controls things such as cities, airport buildings, and other specific sceneries.

I leave these lines out of my fsx.cfg. My system is capable of running FSX fairly well, so I set my sliders both to dense and that looks great to me.
