I gota new video card (nvidia 8600 GT  512mb:D), now I cant play FSX. I gett eh following error message:

The application has failed to start because the application configuration is incorrect.  Reinstalling the application may fix the problem.

I dont want to reinstall and lose everything.  Is there anything else  I can do?

PS Iv deleted FSX.CFG and it still did the same thing.

Firstly, install the latest C++ library http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/deta ... laylang=en
EDIT: I found another file which other people have reported fixes this issue: http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/deta ... laylang=en

This is just to make sure that you have the latest and it isn't causing the problems.

From what I have found through researching the error is it is a registry corruption and most people need to reformat their drives to fix the solution. As yet I haven't found the key which is the problem.

Also this may be an error in the Activation procedure microsoft now use. They look at your hardware profile and create a unique Hash based on your current components. The serial you put in when you first start FSX is the assigned to this unique hash. It may be possible that by changing the video card it is creating a conflict with this process. If I am correct go to this page: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/928080 and download the Software Licensing System Reset Tool. This will reset the licensing of your copy of FSX and may help.

Have you tried installing the above files from Microsoft?

To save the rewards you need to back up the GratedRewards.bin and GrantedRewardsOld.bin, these are both in the same folder as the fsx.cfg. To back up your log book find a file called logbook.bin in the Documents/Flight Simulator Files folder

good news and bad news...good news FSX is now accessible (downloaded teh C++ library and it works.  Bad news:  All the airplane are looking funny (panels missing, wings on sideways, etc.)

Good to hear the good news!

About the buggered planes, it sounds like the typical jigsaw puzzle plane. Basically it is caused by missing textures. Put in the FSX Disc 1 and run a repair. It wont delete anything you have installed, just replace any default file that is missing or corrupt.

Yes, it sounds like your sim is in very bad shape.

A few steps to go through before you do reinstall, just to make sure everything is covered.

In Windows XP turn on View Hidden Folders and browse to C:\[your username]\Application Data\Microsoft\FSX

backup in a seperate location GrantedRewards.bin and GrantedRewardsOld.bin. These are your mission rewards files.

Go back up one folder to C:\[your username]\Application Data\Microsoft\ and delete the FSX folder.

Under Windows Vista it is the smae process except you find the file at C:\[your username]\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\FSX

Next go into Documents or My Documents (Depends if you run Vista or XP respectively) and back up in a separate location the Flight Simulator X Files folder. This contains all saved flights and the logbook. Delete the original.

I wouldn't recommend backing up any aircraft or file that have been installed into FSX as they may be the cause.

Now run the uninstaller for FSX from Add/Remove programs and restart once it finishes.

Go into the location where FSX was installed and delete all folders that the uninstallation missed. Empty the recycling bin and restart.

Install FSX again following the guides and procedures as outlined by NickN and Fly2e in the sticky at the top of this forum.

After this install each aircraft or add on you had previously and test each, if after the installation of an aircraft or file there is a problem, remove it and leave it out.

Can you post the specific error messages as they can provide us a lot more details than the error numbers

ok..here it is in depth:

Installation goes ok ALL the way until it gets to PUBLISHING PRODUCT INFORMATION, then i get my first error code

"Error 1935.  An error occurred during the installation of assembly
'Microsoft.MSXML2,publickeyToken="6bf6b9abf345378f",version="4.1.0.0"type="win32",processorArchitecture="x86"".  Please refer to Help and support for more information.  HRESULT:0x80070002.
-click OK
goes into Rolling back action
then I get a feature transfer error

Error: -1603 Fatal error during installation.

Consult Windows Installer Help (Msi.chm) or MSDN for more information

then it exits, i get a screen that says installation unsuccesful, etc.

then all is lost. :'( :'(

Do you have Lavasoft Ad-Ware SE Plus installed?

If so, uninstall it compltely, reboot and try the install again

When was the last time you downloaded Windows Updates? There is an MSXML update at WU under the optional software list you may not have.

There may be something wrong with MSXML on your system. Download this:
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/deta ... laylang=en

Place it here----->
