Problems with installation/registration

First an admission. I attempted to install a version of FSX belonging to my son. The installation failed when the programme would not allow registration because of too many previous uses. So, being impressed with the graphics etc I bought my own version. After several attempts at installation it appears a registery change is blocking the use of the new software. An error occurs after the entry of the product key, the software will not run and every time I attempt to run it the programme insists on the product key entry and then pulls up the same error. I have downloaded and installed the licensing system reset tool and followed the instructions sadly to no avail. I would be very grateful for any advice that might allow me to run the programme. My machine is an Acer Aspire 5920G with an Intel Duo T5450 processor/250GB HD and 2GB of ram.

Ok try this. Do a system restore to a point before you ever tried to install any copy of FSX.
[glow=yellow,2,300]BEWARE anything you added after that point will be gone[/glow]
This should do the trick.
If this does not work run the reset tool again reboot and retry install.
One other note if you use nero uninstall it as it can cause issues. Trust me on this on.

Hi,
Thanks for the advice, very much appreciated. However, I did try system restore but it has failed to work. I have since tried to re-install FS 2004 (complete) but this programme locks up as well. I will try the registery reset once again and if that fails again I think I will throw both versions of FS away and take up flying lessons for real.............................!!!!!

This is a fix straight fromt he microsoft help site. The page is here http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx/kb/927007.

This is the second last fix int he list, it may help with activation. THIS WILL REQUIRE YOU TO ACCESS THE REGISTRY. IF YOU MAKE A MISTAKE YOU COULD DAMAGE YOUR SYSTEM. CREATE A RESTORE POINT INCASE

1.      In Windows XP, click Start, click Run, type regedit, and then OK.
In Windows Vista, click Startthe Start button, type regedit in the Start Search box, and then click regedit.exe in the Programs list.
User Access Control permission If you are prompted for an administrator password or for a confirmation, type the password, or click Allow.
2.      Expand the following registry key:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CURRENTCONTROLSET\CONTROL\CLASS\{4D36E967-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}
3.      After you find the folder, double-click Upperfilters on the right side.
4.      Change the value from 0 to PartMgr, and then click OK.
5.      Close Registry Editor, and then try to use the activation wizard.

Hi everyone,

Thanks for the advice, much appreciated. Problem solved, after much deliberation and careful 'tinkering' culminating in a scan from the Microsoft website that appears to have fixed the registery, all seems ok. The scan incidentally, can be accessed for Vista users at,      http://onecare.live.com/site/en-gb/default.htm?s_cid=sah     it worked for me, but who knows what those cunning little Microsoft chappies have looked at on my computer..................................................!!!!!!!!

Have a nice day one and all,
