Postby turbo_skylane » Wed Jan 02, 2008 9:27 pm

I haven't got any addon scenery..
but my question is, is there a aircraft carrier in FSX Deluxe, and if so whats the airport tag or whatever so I can fly to/from it?

Presently you have aicarrier and aicarrier2 (from Avsim), these are programs which allow you to either fly to a carrier in a set place or as in the latter example place them anywhere you wish, then fly to them.

At the moment I have an alternative I`m working on but its not ready for release yet, as tempting as that is.  What it does is allow you in version 1 to fly to a static aircraft carrier using an airport code EG51 and utilise the GPS.  On landing or at any point really I would suggest utilising aicarrier2 and setting 2-3 ships one mile ahead, you can set these moving.  You do have the option in this one of starting on the carrier deck from the start menu of FSX.

Version 2 would be no start carrier but as you approach by GPS you again start aicarrier2 and have 2-3 ships or whatever at the user position, static or moving.  If moving then you can only find the start position by GPS and fly straight ahead to locate the fleet.

The area the carriers are sited at is a nice wide sweeping bay with houses at both sides and rolling hills.  The carriers are on the water at the perimeter of the bay ready to leave for a sea journey.  I can place them further out at sea but really like this area and scenery.

I have also placed two lifting objects in a nearby airport EGHD Plymouth but do not at this stage believe they can be lifted in Free Flight mode.  I am also investigating ILS for the carrier.  Plymouth is well in progress and the next of about 7 places will be the Persian Gulf, Iran/Iraq area.  More news as it becomes available.

Good question I am not sure if there are any in the base package so to speak. I would imagine you will have to turn every thing up in order to see them if ther are any in FSX. I know there are water based airports for the float planes but just not sure about carriers. 8-)

At that time [1909] the chief engineer was almost always the chief test pilot as well. That had the fortunate result of eliminating poor engineering early in aviation.
