Wrong Texture Loading - Acceleration

Postby an-225 » Wed Dec 26, 2007 2:39 am

- for lack of a better phrase. I select one texture - lets use 747-400 in its Orbit livery. Now, I have selected a livery to check before that - all white, which from hereon in shall be referred to as white. It comes up in its white livery instead of Orbit. What causes this, and how do I fix it?

Upon rereading, it seems a little generic, I can't think of anything else to say on this problem though, if need be, cite the info you would like me to remember.

EDIT: So far, EVERY time I have loaded the EH-101 from Microsoft's Acceleration in its RAF livery, it loads that texture, and ONLY that texture for every other Merlin I pick. It occasionally happens with the Hornets textures (Blue Angels and RAAF) and I have not experienced it with the P-51 (yet).

Its an occasional glitch in FSX that affects all aircraft from time to time.  The default plane in each type is the white one and all textures radiate from this base model.  I often find that when the glitch occurs, swapping to an entirely different plane and colour scheme from the file menu and then change to the EH101 sorts it.  Failing this, a restart is required.  All they are doing is using the base model because of a problem/glitch.

Uh oh.

Well, cycling through the other aircraft worked, so thanks for that tip mate. ;)

But I don't think this is meant to happen 100% of the time...

Image

....in this instance, instead of previewing the RAF variant, I just selected it, clicked OK, and it would not load the textures in the main preview screen, in the create a flight section. It remained gray (with window textures loaded). FS must have trouble reading the texture folders, and possibly because each section in the .cfg file is labelled (sim section) AircraftNameHere 1, AircraftNameHere 2, so it might only read the first "word" (AircraftNameHere) therefore loading that texture?

I admit though, I just installed Acceleration. No clean FSX. Recorder was installed as well as FSUIPC. I had modified FSX to have an Aircraft folder, and had changed it so that when in the menu it would not load...now I have deleted the old FSX.cfg so it could rewrite itself, possibly fixing the problem. Any thoughts on this?

A few thoughts.  First sign of problems you should do a clean install when using add ons like the SP`s.  Deviating from the normal path statement is not a good idea at all, since files in different areas are preset with the original path.  Just asking for problems making changes like that.  If you made an aircraft folder so its like FS9 then ok, it can do that in conjunction with the sim objects one.  But don`t move from there to the FS9 dummy one......a big mistake.

Far better to modify any files to point to the FSX aircraft folder in Sim Objects when utilizing FS9 aircraft, some of which will not work correctly under SP2 anyway.

Is it a good idea to uninstall several (Battlefield 2, Battlefield 2142, FS2004 and FSX) programs all in one day? I am doing a mass cleanup and am trying to uninstall BF2/142 and FS2004. And as you said, it looks like I need to do a clean install of FSX.  :)

I`ve done it before, just do it logically and no problem.  Reboot at the end too.  Once reinstalled and running aok then its defrag defrag defrag......

Reinstalled FSX and Acceleration (plus, Just Flight CLS DC-10, Just Flight CS Space Shuttle and Just Flight Wilco/Feelthere Embraer Legacy), worked on the first go. Previewed Embraer first. Previewed the RAF EH-101 and cycled through all other liveries, in order, with no bugs. Went to check on Hornet. No bugs here. Back to Merlin. Its doing that thing again. Although this time all it takes it for me to close the selection menu down and reselect it.

Everyone must have this bug, yet since not many people spend most time just staring at their aircraft in awe, flicking backwards and forwards in between them, not many will notice it. Thank you for your help though reider. :)  ;)

The bug has been around a long time but also to some extent relies on the state of the users system.  Some see it worse than others and some only very occasionally.  Thats what the base model is for, to be there if the other textures fail for some reason or other.  Just a case of loading another aircraft occasionally.  Next set of video drivers may correct it, you just have to keep flowing with the tide.

So can this thing be caused by video drivers? At times though, I HAVE noticed a difference (with all aircraft BUT the Merlin) between clicking "cancel" or "OK" when previewing. Cancel usually does not have this effect, and its a high possibility when clicking OK where it defaults. I have also noticed, that the livery I preview before loading the RAF livery, is not affected.  :-/  ;)

Something That May Be of Future Use to Developers

Postby an-225 » Tue Jan 01, 2008 5:36 am

Sorry for the bump, but this could reveal something for future aircraft developers so they don't make the same mistake. I have made a pass off of this texture default to the blank white texture. I need those with Acceleration, to post:

WHETHER or not they get the same problem with ANY Merlin texture EVERY time (specifically check the RAF and white textures).

WHAT textures are in WHICH folder? Are the fallback textures (rotor, reflection etc) in the RAF folder, or the white folder, or the folder for any other livery you get stuck on (USAF Reserve, Denmark SAR etc).

DOES the problem texture folder have a .cfg file? If so, post the content please.

IF separate from the problem texture folder, DOES the texture folder containing said fallback textures (rotor, reflection etc) have a .cfg? If so, post the content please.

This could help prevent further situations similar to this from happening in the future. :)

Thanks for the help n4gix, but I don't have Vista, and I run an Nvidia 6800 GPU, both of which have no compatibility for DX10 mode.

Is there anyone out there who would care sharing the settings I listed above?

Is there ANYONE out there who would be kind enough to share the information I requested a few posts up? Again, it could prevent this from happening to any other airplane in future. ;) :)
