My son has two of these bad boys tied together with a core duo and 2 gigs of ram and you still can not max out FSX but you can get great results by tweaking the sliders and other tweaks. I got great details in the cities and frame rates were in the 30,s as I had a thunder storm in the area and with Active sky x and X graphics it looked awesome! 8-) To bad I could not keep it there but it is his system and FSX will not let you have two installs without  doing something illegal.  8-)

my system is underpowerd and i get a good 22FPS most places

1gig PC3200 RAM corsair XMS
8800GT 512mb
AMD 4600+ @ 2.5ghz atm

however, my FSX is set up for flying in rural areas as i like low and slow in FSX  8-) i have played around with slider, and the .cfg (after SP2 now) and its running better than ever :)

now, in a month or so when i upgrade my machine to

2GB PCS PC64000 DDR2 RAM
Q6600 2.4GHZ quad (to be overclocked ASAP) + zalman cooler
+ my current 8800GT

im expecting to be able to push those sliders a little frther and get a little closer to my dream FS

FSX is individual to everyones machine and people like differant bits of detail. posting on a forum saying "will this run FSX maxed" when you have tried and it doesnt is silly. what you should be asking is How do i get the best from my system

my 2 cents

What .cfg tweaks are you guys using?

All I have there is the [BUFFERPOOLS] at 8000000 which gives me smoothness.

End of next year, wow :). Really i just want to be able to get some level of detail in the citys............

About three months ago I upgraded my rig with all new components. It includes a dual core 3Gb CPU, an 8800 GTX video card, an nForce 680i SLI motherboard and 4Gb of RAM. Based on ongoing research, I elected to remain with XP home with DX9 over Vista with DX10 as this appeared to present a minimum of issues. I am staying with this configuration until FS11 is born. At that time I will add a quad core, Vista with DX10, and if necessary a new video card.

What kind of performance do I get? I enjoy seeing lots of airplanes in the sky and on the ground, boats filling the harbor, and traffic jams on the highway. For that reason I run my system with water set to high 1x and Light Bloom turned off. All other settings are checked on or set to their highest. With these settings I can expect frame rates from the low teens to 30+ depending where I am. One of my favorite flights is hovering at dawn over Boston Logan in a Beaver with planes approaching two runways, lines of aircraft waiting for the active, planes taking off, the harbor full of boats, the highways packed with cars, and Nick
