Maxing out FSX

Postby bgyuk » Mon Dec 24, 2007 11:46 pm

Hi need some advice please.

I'm currently running 64 bit 4.2 gighz athlon, 1 gig of ram and a ATI 1800.

The game runs ok but i can t put any of the graphics up in citys.

I'm going to upgrade, looking at another gig of ram and a BFG GeForce 8800 GT OC2 512MB GDDR3 HDTV/Dual DVI (PCI-Express).

However i want to be able to max out the settings. will this be enough?

Thanks for any help.

But it will still run a lot better.  Even a quadcore with the 8800 will still not allow you to max, but frankly it will be such a better experience you will be very happy.  Nick tells us the hardware we need to begin to approach the max is still away at the end of next year.

Then yes. Lol. Maxing out FSX isn't just about the sliders though. But believe me, that system will give you what you're looking for.

If you in fact can get that specific card, do so. They are currently as rare as hen's teeth, simply because it's the very best one currently produced.  BFG's Lifetime Warranty is a great bonus as well... ;)

I have an Intel Core 2 Quad with an Nvidia GeForce 8800 with well over 700MB [I forgot the exact MB] and even that only allows me up to 15 FPS in FSX. ::)

Don't run max settings lol.

But if you run medium high settings you can get a very comfortable 20+ frames anywhere.

Do we need this question every two days? There's also a sticky in the hardware forum.

That computer, even with the new videocard, will NOT come even close to maxing out FS10, but it will run it very smoothly provided you set it up well.

Intel 6700 dual core
8800GTX
4gigs 800hz RAetc etc
FSX + Acceleration
Matrox Triple Head2Go
Everybody's addons, pay and free.

My set up is medium high in power and it runs FSX extremely well.   Fast and smooth over ciites, but the sliders are not at max

Autogen is a killer, light bloom, water etc.  It's all in this forum many times over, thread after thread with great leadership from NickN and others.  Take the time to find and read them, your knowledge of the game and your computer will blossom.

I miss the AI density of FS9, but outside of that at medium high settings it is a delight to fly.  And the scenery is significantly better with great flexibility.  Addons like UTX USA and Canada are superb.

And the genuinely new aircraft like the PMDG 747 point to the next great stage in the emergence of FSX

Frankly

where the scenery is not photoreal not being able to max the sliders doesn't really matter I find.  If there are fewer buildings or less scenery complexity, frankly I would never know.  So as long as my experience is non-stuttering, panning is smooth and the level of detail high, then in fact I can see no problems.

I have some great airplanes but I find myself flying the FSD Navajo, the plane I flew real world, over eastern Australia with absorbing pleasure - rather than developing my FMC skills on more complex aircraft.  I sit there using the WAC charts and sectionals to navigate, and use clock and compass as well as raw data from VOR and NDB.  It must look like I am dotty to outsiders, but it is absorbing and challenging.

FSX is a revolution - but it requires adjustment to your computer, and to you!

Do this and enjoy.

I'm sooooooooooooooo sorry for asking advice in a forum dedicated to the subject.

Ok, Ended up getting a GeForce 8800 GTX 768MB GDDR3 HDTV/Dual DVI (PCI-Express) and 4 gig of ram, OCZ 4GB (2x2GB) PC2-5400C5 Dual Channel Vista Upgrade Gold Series DDR2. So i'm hoping to be able to run some building in citys now. :D.

bgyuk:

Don't be offended by the reaction, but this forum has long, long threads on setting up FSX.  Also the two stickies at the top give lots of information, but also give leads to other threads.

Your rig will give you a good performance and you should get good fps over cities with Scenery Complexity at Dense and Autogen at Normal.  You will need to balance this off against other sliders.

Try flying over Seattle or somewhere similar at say 2000ft at varying speeds, and play with the sliders.  Its a quick way to sort out the  settings that suit you.

I have the 8800GTX and have found it a good performer.  If you can team it with a quadcore cpu all the better.  (More cores than that it would seem the Law of Diminishing Returns applies)

Read the threads, join the tweakers, and enjoy.
