Hi guys

I'm sure it was on these forums i remember seeing a simple tutorial doing just this, only now i can't find it.  I've got a small handfull of aircraft i'd really love to try in FSX, but i know it doesn't work if i just copy them over.

Can anyone please point me in the right direction.

thanks muchly

Hi Dougal. Installing FS9 aircraft into FSX is no different from any other addon aircraft. The main reason they don't show up on the selection menu is if the panel is aliased to an FS9 default aircraft that is not included with FSX, for example the b737_400. This is simple enough to fix by aliasing it to an FSX default aircraft. Open Panel.cfg in Notepad to check it out. If it looks like this;

[fltsim]
alias=b737_400\panel

change it to this;

[fltsim]
alias=b737_800\panel

That should do it. There's a useful list of FSX default aliases here. http://www.simviation.com/fsxaircraftinstall.htm

Thanks for that.  Are there not changes to cfg files to be made - like ui_manufacturer and stuff?

Some Aircraft.cfg entries are slightly different but they appear to work without a problem. If you wish to keep the aircraft after trying it you could edit them at your leisure using any default Aircraft.cfg for reference. Some FS9 aircraft have display problems in FSX depending on which updates you have installed.  To finish the job take a screenshot of the aircraft in FSX, resize it to 250 pixel width & save it in JPEG format as Thumbnail.jpg. Pop this into the Texture folder of the aircraft for the image to display on the FSX selection menu. Again, you can use the default aircraft for reference.
