Online hosting.........

For a long time I had and online server on FS9. Everything went perfectly well and I am still paying the TS connection where I communicate with some of the guys.............Once I moved to FSX and Vista, I set up the host using Chocolatesoftware server program. It loads perfectly and the host goes on line....but there is no way I can connect. I have a router and my speed is 2GIG, so it really flies....my 8080 port is open as required but no way......I used to fly with a bunch of guys from all over the world and after Vista no more flights.  I miss the fun since some of those guys taught me great stuff about FS9, navigation and many other Sim stuff but most importantly,  we were good flying buddies ...  we had the best "Saturday Nights Around with jokes, good flights and good music" flying with Spaniards, Germans, Italians, Floridians, Mexicans, North Americans and so many others is wonderful and you get to really appreciate how good Simmers  are all over the world :)

Question? has anyone using Vista and chocolatesoftware

Are you running the FSHostClient to connect?

It is required to connect FSX to an FSHost server session.

Hi Dave.....Yes.....it works perfectly well because my grandson, who got FSX before I did, would connect perfectly well with my FS9 session., so all the software elements for an FSX connection are online....its really is one of those things!!!!!!......Thank you. ;)

Solid, not quite sure I understand your reply....are you running both FSHost Server and FSHostClient as required?

When you were running FS9, you connected to your FSHost Server using the FS9 in game Multiplayer (client).

Unlike FS9, the FSX in game Multiplayer cannot connect to an FSHost Server, even if the server is running on your computer.

You must also run the FSHostClient, which provides the 'client' so your FSX game can connect to the FSHost Server. This applies to anyone running FSX and connecting to an FSHost Server.

Dave..............yes I am running the server and the client....I have even tried running the server off my second computer and the client on my Number 1 pc and still no connection

I guess the next issue would be ports. Are you able to connect FSX to an external FSHost server?

As I run XP, I'm unfamiliar with Vista's firewall or security.

As I run XP, I'm unfamiliar with Vista's firewall or security.   If you had your server and (FSX) client working before under XP then probably a matter of getting Vista to cooperate.

A few general thoughts:

Running 2 firewalls (your router's and Windows firewall) is problematic. In XP the solution was to disable the Windows firewall and configure your routers firewall. Don't know if thats possible in Vista.

Port forwarding for FSX/FSHost; 6073, 2302-2400, 23456 and an additional 2345x port as your running FSHost and FSX on the same machine. Ref.

If your running FSX/FSHost on a new machine, does your routers port forwarding point to the new machine's static IP?

Below are a few links that discuss the ports necessary for FSX and FSHost.

Microsoft-FSX Multiplayer Ports

FSHost Help-Ports

Simviation MP Server-sticky ports required to connect to SimV's FSHost server.

Portforward.com-general and specific help for setting up firewalls  and routers.

Hope this is in some way helpful.     :)

If not, maybe reposting your question in the Multiplayer forum would yield more/better response.

Thank you very much Dave.....I will re-check some of the things you  mention and read your references....I always disconected the Software firewall in XP an yes you can do it also in Vista.....

Have a Merry Christmas...........Oh, yea I connect OK with other FShosts.....
