I have FEX and UTX-USA. What other addons can I get that will, in combination with these two that I already have, increase the look of the game?

GEX

Trees V2.1

FTX when it is released next year

FSGenesis 10m mesh for the USA will better define the world

Landclass product to complement where UTX does not cover. Cloud9 (disable the seasons.bgl in Cloud9 or you lose the fall colors) or use FSGenesis USA landclass

Thanks, Nick. I just purchased GEX and am in the process of installing it. I'll see about FS Genesis. :)

Active Sky X isn't too shabby either...

I've heard of Active Sky many times, but don't know exactly what it does. Someone please explain?

Active Sky X is a weather engine. It replaces the "real world" weather engine in FSX

The company also offers a graphics package but I do not use it, I use FEX for clouds and FEX will be releasing a HUGE update soon which will upgrade clouds further and all runway textures and the same things Xgrahics (ASX) offers. FEX will also be introducing a new weather enginbe as well which I will probably use in place of ASX since it will also tie into the upcoming FTX releases

That's good to hear. More for my green. Any idea as to when this update will be released?

I have been using Active X and X Graphics, and I have found it great.  I thought the benefit of X Graphics is that it reflects the clouds and sky on the ground, which is a huge lift in realism.  I also have the two UTX packages for USA and Canada, and they are superb.

Nick I must have misread you, as I thought that you were no longer using any autogen hacks, like Trees v2 but now I will reinstall them and the grass.

Now that I realise FEX and GEX are compatible with these others I will get them to improve my terrain realism.

With 10meter mesh FSX is now looking really great - but it sure makes a full reinstall hard and lengthy work.

The only benefit is that I can get rid of stuff I have on, but no longer use.  But its a lousy way of doing the housekeeping - knocking the house down first.

FEX and GEX were the best $75 I have spent on my sim in a long time. And the best part, I haven't taken a frame hit!

Cheers

I have both of them, and I'm glad to say that I haven't taken too much of a frame hit either. I can't wait to see what I get with a quad core when I get a hold of one.

I'm using FEX and GEX, with 19m mesh and 1m texture resolutions. Should I increase them to the next level due to FEX and GEX or should I leave them the same?

One downside of the Matrox Triple Head2Go is that the resolution is less than the best.  Its all part of the great swings and roundabouts of computers I guess.

Therefore I will give the grass a go.

But how do I get those great modifications that you have made to GEX?

That's what I'd like to know. I have GEX and it doesn't look that good. It does improve the realism in that the buildings are where they are supposed to go, but at night the lights don't look that good.
