I might be doing something wrong, but I can't seem to shut off of the autothrottle on the a318-a321 series when on short final.  For example, I was decending towards KLAS in an a318 when i shut off auto throttle.  All was well until i shut off the auto pilot.  For some reason, the auto throttle came back on and would not shut down unless i turned auto pilot back on.  Basically there's no way for me to land short of setting the speed to 0, which seems a little odd.  

I'm wondering if others have experienced this apparent issue and if so how you were able to workaround.  Thanks.

 

I have not flown the air bus in FSX yet but what you might want to try is after shutting off auto throttle and turning down any other input like a joystick with throttle control on it down hit F1 this should set throttles to minimum and then you should be able to use your throttle controls to control the speed or you can use F2 to slow down and F3 to speed up. F4 should give you max throttle. 8-)

I have not heard of your exact problem but I do know that in general, the flight control computers on the airbus are quite wacko. In my mind, its best to turn them all off  

When you disable your auto-pilot on approach it will disengage all but the speed controll. Once you disable auto-pilot you must also disengage throttle controll.

I guess I haven't figured out how to disengage the throttle control.  The throttle button is nonresponsive (unless I re-engage autopilot) and shift R doesn't seem to have any effect either.  Is there a trick to disengaging the throttle control?

If I'm using a boeing on an ils approach i always disengage the throttle control first (4 miles or so out) followed by the autopilot prior to touching down.  This technique works on all boeings and the E145 that I fly.

The airbus' autothrottle disengages at first but then re-engages when i disengage the autopilot.  I tried to fly the plane with the autopilot engaged but couldn't.

I've had this problem for some time but thought maybe either I'm not flying the airbus correctly or there's a glitch in the airbus series that others are aware of and have corrected.

Which add-on are you using? You mentioned an A318 but obviously the FSX standard airbus is the A321.

i never fly the A321 i cant get the heading hold switch to turn on or off

The panel is aliased to the fsx a321, which makes sense since both seem to have the same issue. I'm going to give the F1 key trick a try with the fsx a321 and hopefully it'll work.

The F1 key did the trick!  :)  I flew the same IFR from Palm Springs to Las Vegas but this time after disengaging the auto throttle at about 4 miles out on approach to 1L I powered down the throttles using the F1 key and took control using the throttle on my joystick.  I think the key here is not to give it too much power above what N1 was before taking over.  Anyway, I then disengaged the autopilot at 3miles out and landed.  Thank you for your advice.
