Re-Installing FSX and Acceleration

Hi
Two questions on re-installing FSX
1. I've backed up the save files but can someone tell me where the mission progress file is - where it stores which ones have been completed and awards given, etc.
2. Do I need to install SP1 or can I just install FSX and then Acceleration on top of that?
Thanks a lot.
Sean

1. I dont know about the missions progress but I am sure someone else may have that info
2. No, Install RTM (orginal disks) then boot the sim and let it complete its install. Boot a flight and after it fully loads close the sim and reboot the computer. Install Acceleration which contains SP1/SP2. Start the sim and allow it to complete, then close the sim and make any config file edits you may wish to add.
Its always best to not install any 3rd party add-ons until you confirm the sim is indeed running correctly
When SP2 stand-alone is released you will need to install SP1 using the same method I outlined above (install, SP1, boot sim, close sim and reboot computer, then install SP2) unless Aces decides to put the SP1 bits into the SP2 stand-alone product
Once Acceleration is installed you do not need to run any SP1-SP2 updates

1. I believe rewards/mission progress is saved in a file named rewards.bin. I'ld suggest backing it up, and logbook.bin (so you keep all of your flying hours)
2. Personally, I found that a full re-install wasn't needed. I ran the repair function on the FSX disc by inserting disc one, waiting for the autorun to load and selecting "Repair". If there are any issues with files or you have replaced the defaults it will replace them with fresh ones off the disc. I backed up my fsx.cfg, deleted the original then installed Acceleration. Next I ran Accel, opened a flight, closed FSX, restarted, edited the fsx.cfg and started enjoying Accel!

yes back up the rewards and old rewards files which can be found in the same folder as your fsx.cfg file

You want GrantedRewards.BIN and GrantedRewardsOld.BIN from the same location as your FSX.cfg Then collect logbook.bin from My Documents/Flight Simulator X Files I always put these into place immediately after the first install of FSX before the SP1 and/or 2. But after the initial start of the simulator as Nick suggested. Failure can mean it gets corrupted, this happened to me.
Secondly, if you have the SDK installed from the Deluxe version of FSX, then SP1a installed on top, you have more options. Their is an Acceleration version of the SDK which needs the original and SP1a installed to proceed. Though SP1a is included on the Acceleration disk. We lost some facilities from the file menu after SP1, some did anyway, this has now been fixed and probably some other stuff besides.
