Terrain Graphic Problem

Postby Bubblehead » Wed Nov 14, 2007 11:59 am

I've brought this problem up before but there were no takers. I'm so frustrated that I am about ready to delete my FSX altogether and go back playing the more reliable FS9. My problem developed a few weeks ago when all of a sudden I noticed that my terrain had blue, black and white patches. It was an ugly scene whereby the trees and buildings stuck out of sectional patches like crossowrd puzzle. I tried everything I know to correct including going back to default settings but no joy. is there anything else I can try before deleting the game and re-start all over? I saved most of my add-on files. My rig is more than adequate as I had been playing the game at upper settings without any problem until this came along. Any ideas on what to try next? And if I uninstall the game, should I expect any problem reloading?

I never saw your first post about the problem

I have seen that corruption issue before with aircraft (aircraft boots and looks scrambled) and scenery. It can be due to an add-on messing up or deleting an original file, or, driver issues. I assume you have the recent drivers and all the DX9 updates installed

Most find a re-install of FSX fixes the problem

There are some lines you can put in the FSX.cfg file which will tell you on the screem if textures are missing for aircraft or scenery

[SCENERY]
MissingLibraryAlert=1
ShowMissingTextureAlert=1

What those will do is post a message on the screen when you load/fly a flight if there are missing parts or textures in the aircraft and scenery. It

Thanks for the quick response. My graphic problem pertains to the terrain (ground)only and not the aircraft or scenery For example: Flying an AB321 out of San Diego. As I look at the aircraft on the runway prior to takeoff, the view of the ground on either side of the runway appear like patches. As I take off and gain altitude, I can see the scenery with trees and buildings but the ground appear as irregular patches like a crossword puzzle. Also the overall secenry seemed to jerk. I recalled somewhat at the time I believe I started experiencing the problem was that I was messing around with the settings however, I returned to my original settings.

Strange

I would move the current FSX config file to a safe place and boot the sim, let it write a new file... verify driver settings

If there is no addon scenery installed that you can disable to test and the above does not make any change, a reinstall will probably be the best course of action unless someone comes along who has seen this and knows exactly what it is tied to.

Usually what you describe would be currupt files

I'll give it a couple more days in the hope that someone will comeup with an option to correct. I already have the cfg.file saved in a separate external drive. By the way, how may I know what kind of updates I have with my FSX. Is it also possibole to print a copy of the graphic I am describing and attach it to a thread for others to see what I'm talking about?

you can hit the V key as many times as you wish and with that, screenhots will be saved in: My Documents\My Pictures\Flight Simulator X Files

updates? you mean SP updates?  Did you install SP1? If you did and have not installed Acceleration then you only have SP1 right now.

If you mean add-ons, only you would know if you installed any scenery, mesh or other add-on.

From what you are describing it sounds like corrupt mesh or other terrain BGL or some add-on BGL that is clashing with the default.
