I have to ask, how do you know how your fps fluctuates while in a flight. Mine is set at 20 in settings, what doe this mean?

Thanks,       DB

Press Shift+Z until you see the FPS indicator thing. That will tell you what FPS you are getting. It's LOCKED at 20 meaning it can't go over twenty keeping a steady FPS. If your in flight and you see it is constantly at 20 FPS try Locking at 30 and so on.

wiiliketofly,    Thanks. Your post was very clear. I hit shift+z and my fps was fluctuating between 19.5 and 20 in a flight over ice in Alaska. I'll lock it in at 30 and see what happens. Thanks again!  :)

Just an addition: Don't try to set your FPS limit too high !
The reason is that the FPS limit is meant to free up some ressources for the CPU, in order to process the scenery and the physics faster. If you set your FPS limit too high, you might get some blurries when flying too fast, or your autogen will be late to appear, or your plane might start to jump on the runway.

Thanks Daube,

I have left my fps at 20. I began to think about it: I hav'nt had a bit of framerate trouble since I installed FS10 some 6 months ago, so I figured, "if it aint broke don't fix it". I figured that locking the fps had some meaning that I didn't understand, so, I left it at 20.

My readings over large cities is 10-12 and in the country-side 17-20, and in both situations the program runs very smooth. Could or should I ask for more?

Your help is very much appreciated.  :D      DB
