no default flight always loads a mission ?

Having changed an aircraft which was the deafult flight, I was forced to save a mission as default in order to let FSX allow me to even get to the 'free flight' page.

I then deleted ALL my saved flights , including the default.  Bad mistake.

worse than the commentary,  I have limited functionality in 'mission mode'  , and canot enter many of the 'free flight' menus.

no one told me I couldn't delete all the saved flights or save a mission as a default !   I cant get out of mission mode !  aaghhh !

Your saved flights are in ..\My Documents\Flight Simulator X Files\...

Did you physically delete files from their folders or did you use the 'delete' function in the sim?

1-If you physically deleted the Trike Ulrtralight from your ..\Airplanes\.. folder, restore it.
2-If you physically deleted the files from ...Program Files\Microsoft Flight Simulator X\Flights\other\....restore them (several *.FLT and *.WX files)

Both of these are needed so that the sim can revert back the 'factory' default flight.

See the Flight Simulator X FAQ's to locate your 'fsx.cfg' file. Make a backup of the 'fsx.cfg' file and then open 'fsx.cfg' in Notepad.

Find the following section and delete the path entry from the 'Situation=' line. This will cause the sim to revert back to using the 'factory' default flight (Trike at Friday Harbour).

thanks Dave, just this minute I transfered a saved 'free flight' from my backup PC.    If there are no flights to load as default, the sim would no allow me to the free flight page.   By entering the missions and saving those , of couse the flight cannot be edited , even with "allow edit to mission' ticked.

I found the saves,  my docs/flight x files.   I guess these could also be restored from the CD but my drive is still to be replaced.   Back up PC to the rescue.

thanks for the reply,  stupid me to delete one too many flights.     I need backups of backups.  ;)
