Acceleration/SP2 and MORE problems

Postby macca22au » Sat Oct 27, 2007 6:59 am

It would seem that older aircraft add-ons like those of Carenado, Wilco and FSD which those companies ported over to FSX and which worked adequately in SP1 are now in trouble with SP2.

Most of the discussion of the problem in Phil Taylor's blog reads like it was written in Greek as far as the lay user of FSX is concerned.

The bloggers talk cheerfully of fixes that are beyond my comprehension and beyond my ability to carry out.

Crudely speaking ... face the fact that warmed over FS9 models and earlier will take some reworking - and at that, by the original mnodellers themselves in some cases - to work with ACceleration/SP2 and FS11.

FOr that matter do not expect any model built to the FS9 (and earlier) compliance to be workable in the future, and even some early "true"  FS-X models may have to be recompiled with the new(er) FSX tools to work with Vista/DX10/FS11

and no, it is not the "responsibility"  of the modeller to immediately patch or modify and old model to work with the latest FS version or variant.

Felix, that's a pretty blunt statement.

It's buyer beware.

I did not use any of the utilities available to port aircraft over - I bought them from the retailers labelled for FSX.

I realise of course that backward compatibility is limited.

So I would be interested to learn of those sold-for FSX aircraft that will run in SP2.  I am sure US members, who have bought and installed Acceleration, must have already discovered those with problems.

The trouble is, those who opted to wait for FSX to settle down before transferring, probably showed more sense, and certainly will save money.

Nor is it the responsibility of Aces to patch a patched FSX in order for older models to work.

The only reason I'm responding here, is that the thread's title references a problem with Acceleration/SP2, when it's actually problems with 3rd party models.

And of course when those aircraft were released for FS-X (under the known specifications), they worked as the developers intended.

The point is that the "Rules of the Game"  have been changed with Acceleration/SP2, so now we, as developers/modellers have to be aware that we can no longer use "older"  model making techniques, and have to adhere to the FS-X SDKs to ensure that our releases will work in FS-X and (hopefully) in FS11.

With due respect gentlemen there are very few consumer products that (at least under the laws of this country) could be released unfinished, then have two major adjustments which significantly change some important parts of the structure - without there being some obligations to others either consumers or add-on makers.

However be that as it may, I guess I will line up for the next iteration of add-ons.

But at the Australian flightsim convention today I heard that there was an sp2a to come as SP2 has in someway affected the functionality of the menu system in FSX.

Well, as one who has his "ear" firmly planted at ACES everyday, that's the first I've heard of any such thing.  I suspect someone's simply "guessing" or "wishing" about that!

I won't argue with that.  Seems this is a group that has had early access to SP2 as they are major scenery designers.  I am just a slightly irritated consumer who seems to be paying out continuously for short lived add-ons.

Is Eaglesoft due to release any aircraft for FSX that are compatible with SP2?

Well those two quotes seem to say it all.  Not even Eaglesoft are going to modify their aircraft for SP2 and DX10.  FSD says that SP2 'trashes' FSX aircraft.

What a mess.

PCAViator are quite definite that Acceleration will be on the shelves in Australia next week.  I have ordered it, but I think I will reverse the order until I can understand better just what its impact is really going to be.

I was lectured by somebody associated with Eaglesoft and yet that company is clear that it will do nothing  for some time.  Does that mean it won't complete the Citation X v2.0, - or only for Dx9.0, but is this with or without SP2? and should I not buy their Cirrus.

Well one thing is for sure, I seem to have put my money at risk by buying Vista.  It's going to be some time yet before Dx 10 is going to be of any value.  What an irony if I have to get XP reinstalled.

Looks like the F-18 is using the virtual cockpit of the Acceleration's Hornet, and the F-117 is using the virtual cockpit of the... Hornet as well. This pack from captain sim is crap.

Just who do you think modeled the Acceleration F18? (Hint: look in the Credits)...

Also, CS doesn't supply most of the gauges, since they are simply using the ones that Umberto Colapicchioni coded under contract for FS's Acceleration F18.

That's precisely why they insist that Acceleration is a requirement for their "add on" to work.

O....M.....G. I am SO glad I read this. Up to now hearing only positive things about Accelleration....I was searching for it today in the shops, total wishful thinking... now I can see that it would be a good idea to put my credit card away, sit down somewhere,  and wait. It is at moments like these that I wish I was addicted to a different hobby...
