i've deleted all my fs9 and fsx.......yesterday, my wife came to me and said...no way are we spending $4000 on a new computer with vista and upgrades etc., to fly little planes around......i started to react defensively, then stopped, and suddenly realized she's right.............my weakness like that of many others, is always wanting better, and better... and better comes along with a pretty stiff price tag...i can't just putter around with fs9, when all that potential of fsx is dangling in front of my nose..... too much of a tease..........so i said...thats it, and deleted all....and actually, i feel kinda good...like i've been freed from something...i'll continue to enjoy the forum now and then and watch other's joys and frustrations...and stick to building my 8 foot r/c model of my royal william which will take years yet, and r/c electric ww1 model planes......they at least have a beginning and an end and the only carrot in front of my nose is the one i place there myself  ;D....cheers, and happy flying....................vic

Life without FS eh? Might as well take away food, air and water. Good luck with this and really glad you've decided to still hang out here.  :)

Ya gotta do what ya gotta do. On some level, I kind of respect your decision..

humm  I applaud your move. But there are ways to make it cheaper.  By just upgrading what you need little by little I think it can spread it out if not cut out expenses of an entire new computer. anyway I give you a week before you head back to the missus saying "can I PLEEEEAAAASSSSEEE get a new computer!!!!!!???"

;) ;D

Think the longest I went without FS was MAYBE a month.  But I think it came off of a summer of total FS immersion.  Once spent an entire day (from sun-up to sun-down) on CFS. And believe it or not I was on the Zone (if you remember those days) with only 1 crash of the zone software

Brett is correct, totally agree with that.  I myself am not well enough to go out drinking etc even if I wanted to.  I guess the price of this and your wife not knowing where you are, what you`re up to and who you are with should be enough to compensate for the initial outlay.  One which lasts longer than regular hairdo`s, ouch!  Runs very quickly.......   ;)

Rieder and the other guys are right Yancovitch.... my wife likes it that I'm not out on the town drinking, but instead at home with the comp, and her, most of the time. Nowadays, every time I do some translation or proofreading work, she's fine about me spending some of the cash on payware addons, or bits and pieces for the comp. And this hobby is with you for life - something very hard to walk away from.... and in daily terms it isn't too expensive...

And this hobby is with you for life

Yup...  There's always a new plane to try.. or place to fly.. or real-world flight to replicate... and if you REALLY want to commit some time, you can try your hand at designing planes... and if you're a real pilot, you can keep the piloting frame of mind keen.. even keep the instrument skills honed..

It's  never-ending and open ended and safe (except for your sanity when you start designing).. and always rewarding... and places like SimV make it even more so  :)

Tell her you decided that she was right and flying pretend little airplanes around is stupid so you want to learn to fly for real and I bet she'll foot the bill for a new computer herself.  ;D

I tried that before..... You will never stop simming, It is in your blood.  Might I suggest building your own system.  You can build a fairly stable FS platform pretty cheap now and the upgrade overtime.  It will save you big bucks!  And is quite rewarding too.  I built my system last year for under 700 dollars. And it runs FS just fine.  Building computers now is alot easier and inexpensive than most people think.  And you don't need to be a supertech to build a decent system.  Alhough I think I speak for more than myself in saying FS has taught me quite a lot about computers over the years.

i agree mudduk, and thanks all.....i've always built, or had built my own. but fsx, to run sliders upish, will cost under $4000, not to mentions all the payware addons i'll want and upgrades........so... building and flying ww1 r/c electric models will have to sublimate for now, though i agree that, after four  years, fs has become quite quite an addiction. my wife said...sell your 4 foot model of the vasa, and then you can afford the computer....anyone want a model of the vasa??..only $8000 or best offer  ;D
cheers, vic
(not easy to sell...believe me)

The computer I have cost $1100 can run FS9 MAX settings at 60+ FPS (never really tested it) and can run FSX with mostly pushed sliders at 20 FPS.   $4000 is absolutely ridiculous. And not realistic unless your buying from some computer company in which case, is a bad idea in my book anyway.  My computer would not look as cool because they would use a standard white or black case and would have cost 2x as much had I gone with the same specs but bought it from a computer store.
