I'm curious and interested how a "normal temperature would be" , When I'm in the FSX game my CPU raise to 59-60..

I havent heard any complaints in AMD CPU only intels seems to be the ones with this issues.

Be VERY careful in what you look at. The newer Intel Core2 products are not showing the true core temp and are typically 13c+ what you are reading. You need a software program called TAT or RMCLOCK to read the true Intel temp with Core2, and THEN plug in the +/- variance to Speedfan so it displays the correct value. I think some of the P4's are also like that but it has been so long since I played around with them, I do not remember for sure.

be careful with the RMCLOCK applications because there are ways to change the processors code within it for custom setups. Just use them to read temp but do not make code changes.

TAT is used to test Intel processors by applying a HUGE load to the cores and monitoring the exact core diode, bypassing the motherboard sensor.

My air cooled X6700's run 3.6 gig at about 55c in FSX reading SpeedFan and other tools but that translates to about 65-67c in true temp. If I was not overclocking that would probably be more about 45c with a true temp of 57c

Even AMD 64 is the same although it does not have as high of an offset as newer Intel. AMD typically reads about 5-7c lower than the true temp.

All modern processors have a thermal shutdown system based on TAT. It differs from processor to processor.

Make sure you are aware of the processors true specs and how to set the variance in SpeedFan to show the right core temp with newer Intel CPUs. SpeedFan added direct K8 support some time ago so there are 2 readings it may display... the MB CPU sensor and the true K8 temp, which are different and as I recall requires you enable the K8 reading over the MB sensor in Speedfan.


You are running an older P4 my friend so what you see should be correct, however, the older P4's have a much lower TDW point, somewhere around 70c if I recall, and the newer Intel's run from anywhere between 80-110. There are a few that are 65c too. You would probably start to see problems around 68c and with the heatsink issue you had, you see now that just because the readings are within spec does not mean they are... you were overheating because the motherboard sensor on your rig is not reading the true core temp, which is why you had such a hard time figuring out what was going on

my turion x2 runs at 89 when using ms word....

im assuming thats 89 degrees farenheit not 89 degrees celsius, if its farenheit its fine if its celsius id be very worried

I have no problems..but then again, I am using AMD silicon.  

If you want to know whats really going on get an infa red non contact laser thermometer and point it at your cpu and southbridge, if you know an industrial electrician he should have one maybe he can lend it to you, then youll really know.

my comp specs are in my sig....i have speed fan running at all times on my comp and my cpu is mostly at 47c where as my Video card get up to 55 to 60c while running FSX.

My Q6600, overclocked to 3.090 Ghz and running on air, stays at around
45-50C running FSX.

This is measured using Speedfan, corrected for the 15C low reading, and
also with the demo version of another program whose name escapes me
at the moment ( I'm in Halifax, NS...4000 miles from my gaming rig! )

I set FSX to run on cores 1-3 and all other processes are relegated to core 0.
The individual core temps run from 3-7C higer than the Tc, case temperature,
which is the temperature I indicated above.  ( around 23-26% CPU load avg. )

Intel specs the Tc MAX at 71C so I'm not worried in the least with my temps.
Running Prime95 I get core temps up around 64-67C and Tc aroun 60C. Still
well under the Tc MAX value.

I notice that my CPU fan never cranks up to 100%, which it shouldn't with
those temps. The fan speed seems to follow the curves in the Intel thermal
design documents pretty closely.

My 8800GTS 640MB temp is the one I watch...it's at 58-59C idle and runs
up to 63-65C with FSX running.  The fan usually stays at around 80-90%
of max speed under those conditions. I have it set to 70% for the 59C state.

Sorry Chiptas That long name sounds to me like expencive device ..

I been flown all day ,with the speedfan on ,I measure as regular and constant temperature of 53-55, still
yesterday I was flying FS9 in multiplayer and it crash again twice ,well I couldn't continue, ,YES FS9 now its making my pc hang by freezing the video ...with a low temperature , Man!!! I don't know what's going on,FSX its running perfecly well, and MU game and FS9 hangs my system .. :-/
