Cool GA back country airports

while playing FSX, I landed during a fall evening at a little airport in Alaska, for the life of me i cannot recall which one, but the FBO was a little log cabin (or appeared thats what they were going for) and there were several piper cubs parked in the grass with a few parked cars and a few round topped hangars.

The only thing missing when i pulled my cub next to the other cubs was the greeting from the airport dog, smoke billowing from the FBO's chimney filling the air with that crisp Smokey smell and the comradeship of other cub owners on the grass ramp! i thought it was a neat place and have ventured out there searching for similar places. but with very little luck!

I used to be strictly airliners only, but FSX does such a great job of simulating the low and slow feel of General Aviation that i find myself frequently loading up www.skyvector.com on one screen and FSX on the other and making a back country flight in a Cub or Maule or Stearman.

the question i am posing to the rest of you is this:

Do you know of many (or any) airports in FSX that offer a really good back country general aviation feel through convincing and interesting or beautiful scenery?

thanks!

I don't know of any airports, but I have to agree with you.  FSX is a great low and slow sim.  I been doing a flight in the Maule that started just north of Seattle, and I've made it all the way to southern Alaska already (all hand flown, regular speed).  It's been great fun. 8-)

A little bit more south, you can give a try to Concrete Mun and fly around, there are many lakes, valleys and small towns to explore, and once in a while I just fly south from there to reach another very small airport called Packwood, the landscape between those two airports is simply stunning.

Recently I have also discovered the Aspen area, same as above, very nice to fly around randomly. The area is also perfect for gliding.

In Europe, you may want to have a look to the area around Innsbruck. This city itself is already beautifull in default FSX, and not for away you'll find some little airports lost in valleys, like LOWZ. This area is also cool for gliding and generally for flying low and slow. I use the explore those places with the Curtis Jenny of FS9, very hard to fly, but very rewarding :)

Generally, you should absolutely download any freeware scenery you find which is made from Holger Sandmann. This guy makes payware sceneries, but also provide small freeware areas as demo. Places like Bella Coola valley or Glacier Bay are easy to find, and get perfect for exploring.
