Thank you for the update Phil and WELCOME to the SimV forums!

I for one keep your blog bookmarked and check it for new info every week

We old timers on old hardware can get a bit frustrated from time to time trying to push our systems so we get as many bells and whistles out FSX as we can, but please don't be a stranger and do jump in if you may see a subject that could use a bit of advice from the source.

:)

Phil, first, thanks, second, please post here more, the annoying fsX bashers have left. We have tweaked fsX to the max and I would just like to ask a question.

Nick Ns gandson has found what appears to be a tie between Swap_wait_timeout and Texture_bandwidth_mult.

Texture_bandwidth_mult [ch8211] Swap_wait_timeout

A person called Nick Needhams son has found what appears to be a tie between Swap_wait_timeout and Texture_bandwidth_mult.

It was his grandson who emailed him with the information. Nick said he did not have time to check it out completely but would in a few weeks but that the quick tests he had run seemed to suggest he was on to something.

I did get an email from my grandson who may be on to something but I do not have time to completely test or work with it, but what I did test seemed to show quite a bit of promise.

Apparently in looking for a solution to the stutter issue brought on by high disk access it would appear he may have stumbled on a pattern or relationship between the SWAP_WAIT_TIMEOUT= and the TEXTURE_BANDWIDTH_MULT=

Here is what he sent me:

Try the following with the frame lock on unlimited or to the smoothest locked setting.

If TBM is set to X, set SWTO to Y

TBM

and just so nobody thinks this old man is telling tall tales here is a shot of 'unlimited' frame lock with the tweaks we have been discussing

Thats on a A64 4800+ 2 gigs of memory and a 7800GS+ 512mb, all overclocked to the hilt

Now if I can just get the ground textures to stay sharp everywhere I fly and without having to live with stutters, I'll be happy!

Wow, that looks fantastic!

Works well for me. Thanks for putting this back up, I had given up on tweaks for a while.
