"Side-by-side configuration" Error

Postby ShrineGuard » Wed Sep 05, 2007 2:30 pm

Hey there everyone,

I just got FSX, installed it on my system (running Vista), and when I go to run FSX, I get this error message:

"The application has failed to start because its side-by-side configuration is incorrect..."  The rest of the message just says to see the event log.

So, my question to anyone able to answer is: What the heck can I do about this?  I've searched all over and found no real leads or solutions, so does anyone have a thought?  I tried Microsoft support but I need some code to give them so I don't have to pay $35...problem is I need to open the game to get the code ;).

In any case, anyone have any thoughts?  I've repaired the installed, installed fresh, etc, with no luck.

Thanks in advance.

The only stuff I found was to reinstall FSX.  If its a legal installation of FSX I cannot see them charging to fix the issue.

Try this too, no promises, I only found it.....

1) Install the vcredist_x86.exe http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/deta ... laylang=en

2) Install msxmli.msi http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/deta ... laylang=en

Thanks for that second link, I hadn't dug that up yet.  And yeah, I know I shouldn't have to pay, but the only way that I can see to verify that my copy is legal is by providing that number...that I can't access.

Also, after trying four reinstalls without luck, I've noticed that the installation doesn't seem to be properly completing.  While I do get to a window that says the installation is finished, I've noticed that no icon is put on my desktop, which I told the install to do, and that no folder is added to my programs menu.  Might this be an indication as to the real problem?

Iv got vista and iv not had any problems like this tho how are you installing it??

I did it by going to the disk rather then using the auto run.  As I Ran the installer as Admin.

I've been installing it through the auto run.  Might as well give it a shot running straight off the disk.  Can't hurt to try ;).

Since my last post I've tried just about everything there is to try, all without luck.  Tried installing on a different partition, tried updating pretty much everything I can, run the installer straight from the disk.  Still the same error, time and time again.
