FSX general questions (compatibility and running)

alright, i am thinking about getting FSX (maybe deluxe) but first i have these 2 questions

1) how well do you think it would perform on this system?
1.8Ghz dual core processor
ATi Radeon X1650 (getting replaced with 8600GT)
2gb dual channel RAM
vista home premium

2) do you need the disk to run the game? i know there are ways around it on FS9, but what about X? not asking for anything to do the job, but my drive destroyed my FS9 and i was left to resort to other means of playing the game without going out to buy it again. so does it need a disk to run?

cheers

aah, Nick again  ;D

thanks, im getting the 512mb 8600 GT (XFX 8600 GT i believe)

maybe i will leave it for a while then, im getting employment next week, so ill have some cash in my pocket.. but i dont feel like forking out quite that much for a 8800

thanks though

edit: sys reqs include a 32mb card, so a really nice 512mb one shouldnt be too bad. i guess i could test on the demo there is perhaps

Its not the memory with the 8600, its the pixel pipe lines and the memory bus which both suck and are lower an a 7900GT

512 will help but it helps more with a 7950GT which has 256bit memory interface and 24PPL's

The 8800GTS 320 compensates with a 320bit memory interface and 36-48PPL's the 640VM is really needed to complement that core

the 8800GTS is 2X+ the card of a 8600 256

hmm, ill think about it. its no biggy if it wont work brilliantly... there are plenty of MS flight sims to come out before FS9 gets horribly outdated... by then i might be ready for them a bit better
