Getting new computer, need quality, performance

Hi all! This is my first post!

I'm getting a new computer, and I'm looking at the 1150-1300 dollar price range. I'm looking at 3 gigs RAM @ 667 mhz Kingston, 310mb graphics card nvidia 8800 GTS, intel duo core 2.33 ghz. I need to know what roles these all play in FSX. Like, does the RAM improve frame rate? That kind of stuff. And what makes the biggest difference in performance and/or quality?

That should be good for FSX, but it probably wouldn't be able to max-out the sim, does RAM improve frames? Yes it does. it will allow you to have more autogen, traffic and things like that :) As for what matters most out of quality and performance, it's hard to look at one thing and see if it can run the sim at higher settings with good FPS, you have to look at everything in the computer, it looks like you could probably run the sim at high to med high settings and still get good FPS, but I don't really know much about the Nvidia cards, or Intel processors as I use ATI & AMD, probably the most helpful person for this is N Nick  ;) He's floating around here somewhere :)

Alright thanks, would 4 gigs of RAM be alot better? Or would it be better to get a better graphics card instead?

Nick, if your out there, it would be great if you could help me.

I think i put this in the wrong section, I'm going to copy it and put it into hardware,

Thanks for moving that

I saw it and since this is a subject that comes up time and time again I am going to post a "WILL MY NEW SYSTEM RUN FSX" thread in the hardware forum soon.

That way everyone will get the message and be able to make better hardware decisions.

I can tell you for the amount you are looking to spend, you will be able to run it, but will get much better "visual' results on FS9, and, you will have to settle for greatly reduced visuals when you compare the 2 titles should you wish to stay with FSX.

Ok so from personal experience I think you'll be just fine.  I have 2 gigs ram, a 512mb 7900GT, AMD 64 X2 4200+ and it runs FSX between 10-20 FPS on average with rather good quality. (most sliders past half way, no road/water traffic, but 100% air) Your system will be better then mine (well I think so) and I would assume that it would run well. The only thing is the 310mb memory on the card is a odd number to me and would think getting more put there should be a target.

I'd get the 640MB version of the 8800, it's worth it. With the specs in my sig, I can max it out except for traffic and get 20-30FPS in most places.
