All sorts of add-on variants of the moving map are available.
But some, indeed only work with FS in windowed mode - On matrox I only fly in Full Screen.
Others require a degree in computing science to add into FSX.
I wonder whether anyone has thought of, or has, added the FS map function into the kneeboard. Like add another icon to the kneeboard that causes the map to run in the kneeboard window - or possibly Google Earth!
If it could be, then the present clumsy arrangement of bringing a flight to a halt while checking the map could be modified.
The kneeboard may be a simple pop-up, but it is a powerful feature of FS. Can it be made more powerful and useful.
I know there are great commercial add-ons like the Electronic Flight Bag but it does not run in Full Screen (as yet).
If someone responds and tells me that there is an already set-up version of this then I will grovel and apologise, and I will pay anyone for the app.

Someone did this in FS9. You could access the net, weather, map, just about anything in the kneeboard.
I think more and more FSX add on like that will start coming out over the next year.

In FS9 the kneeboard was effectively a browser.
Not so in FSX....the "new and improved", neutered kneeboard doesn't
even allow for links to be followed so any checklist needs to be in
the form of one, long, uninterrupted HTML document.

That's a tragedy and a great step backward as the kneeboard is a pop-up window that can be moved to a 'second' window.
I hate these back to the future developments.
I wonder what technical or marketing reason led them to degrade the utility of the Kneeboard???

whoops - I meant to a 'second' screen.

Tt may have been for better security and other stuff like that. I know the FS9 kneeboard could be used in a bad way too. Then again, they changed alot of things I liked about FS9. Engineers. It doesnt matter if they are structural, electrical or software. They just love to change things!

I don't know whether ACES or Microsoft gurus (apart from Phil Taylor) read these forums.
But if they do - could they consider extending the kneeboard to include a moving map. Or at least allowing add-on developers to do so (while restricting them from web browsing...although I see the weakness of my own argument immediately.....)
After all if a moving map, why not the ability to download in real time STARS,SIDS and approach charts as well as airport diagrams.
There are now a million risks with the web - all sorts of hacks, bugs and worms abound. All sorts of deviant (in my terms) uses can be made of it. Therefore as long as the kernel of FSX can be kept secure, then let us, the users, take the risks with add-ons - formal and informal.

I seem to remember reading somewhere you can do that using google. I have spent so much time working with the performance end of my cheezy hardware I have not spent time with the other stuff that I would like to get customized and working.
After I get my new hardware going I will be diving into all that. I am pretty sure FSX was made to allow all sorts of goodies be added so I dont think your list is too far fetched but i dont think it can be run through the kneeboard

As someone with the same card as the one you are getting, it is really worthwhile.
And to be selfish, you have a much better knowledge of computers than me, so I am looking forward to your posts on tweaks that work.
As to the Topic - the Electronic Flight Bag looks really good, but for some reason FSX has to be in windowed mode for it to run. I hope that they can work out a fix.
