Hello all. I was just flying the default A321, took off and was at cruise climb. I decided to see what my take off looked like so I paused the simulation, and click instant replay and went all the way back to the beginning. I noticed that the gear doors were open but there were no wheels or actual landing gear at all. So I stopped the replay by pressing escape and when it went back to the normal simulation, it was a simulation of the plane doing some crazy, out of control aerobatics, to the point where I couldn't even manually recover and crashed. My question is: Does this happen every time that you replay while the plane is still in the air? Another question: When should I set my cruise speed to mach? I usually have it at 300 while climbing to cruise altitude and then go up to 320 when I level off. The plane's reference says it cruises at mach .80. Should I only set that after I've reached cruise altitude? Thanks for any response

I am not sure what the scale is but the climb speed is determined by a sliding scale that is relevant to current altitude.

Planes are like cars, you manage your fuel based on the speed, if you prepare a long flight flying at max allowed speed as per the structure's allowance you will consume fuel like you are dumping it.

and yes I believe max flying speed must be set when leveled off.

Last but least the A321 is FSX will still reveal many surprisess, that plane handles like the extra 300  :-X

Here's what very little I know on climb speed:

Werner Schott's checklist for the FSX A321 shows 280 KIAS climb speed above 10,000' and then the following:

FL180 0.67 mach (330 KIAS)
FL240 0.76 mach (335 KIAS)
FL280 0.80 mach (325 KIAS)
FL330 0.80 mach (290 KIAS)

Descent looks like this:

to FL240 0.76 mach
to FL180 0.67 mach
to FL120 280 KIAS
below 10'000ft 250 KIAS

If the FSX's Flight Video recorder is as troublesome as it was in FS9, particularly in long replays, you might want to try the
FSX Recorder Module-Beta.

Though it doesn't have the custom view options of the FS9 version, it's still more capable than the default.

Actually, what would keep anyone glued to their seat like an astronaut would be acceleration, not velocity.  That is not to say that velocity isn't important, just not the effect that causes you to experience increases or decreases in G-force.  For example, if you are traveling at 1,000,000 MPS but only accelerating at .01MPS2, you would probably be unable to sense the acceleration at all; the perceived G-force would be very close to 1.  However, if you accelerate from 0 MPS to 100 MPS in 1 second (an acceleration of 100MPS2, you would feel and incredible about of G-force (roughly 10 G!!!).

Now, aircraft are subject to other stresses besides just G-force (acceleration) that are related to their velocity.  Lift, friction, turbulence, and air pressure all act on the structure of the aircraft and can be affected greatly by velocity.  So, while your passengers may not be able to feel excessive velocity if there is little or no acceleration (they aren't glued to their seats), the aircraft itself may suffer considerable structural damage over time and eventually fail.

One final note, if a vehicle goes ballistic (that is, accelerates directly against the pull of gravity), there would be a definite increase G-force as any ballistic acceleration will be 1 (gravity) + the G-force of the acceleration.  Again, velocity is not the issue here, so much as is the vector, or direction, of travel.  The steeper your pitch, the more the Earth's gravity will add to perceived G-force increases from acceleration.

I keep it between 280-300 on my climb above FL100. 250KIAS below FL100, and 200KIAS below 3000Ft. I do the same as that checklist for the descent. I don't like to fly the default A321 in FSX because it really does handle wildly, and the attitude problem that it has; it tends to pitch down. The 747 has the same problem only it pitches upwards. Does anyone know of a good fix for this? I downloaded one before but it changed the flight dynamics and it made it extremely unrealistic so I took it off. I believe it was from this website, but I don't want that one again. Also, does anyone know of a good SAS repaint of the default FSX 747?

I guess I will have adjust my climb speed to max, Feet per min to 4000 then my passengers might feel like astronauts  :P

A quick word on the point about when to use mach reference speeds
One should switch to mach ref at FL240. This is the altitude where Mmo coincides with Vmo.
Imagine a crash depressuraisation dive. Initially one effectively points the a/c at the ground but if you do not pull back as FL240 approaches then the sellotape holding the wings together tears off and the a/c breaks up. (this is the likely cause of the accident ove the Amazon).

Above FL240 the atmosphere is considerably less dense and the IAS becomes too innacurate.
